Markdown editor?

Submitted by quickfold on January 22, 2014 - 11:31am

Are there any free portable apps, either on this site or elsewhere, that support editing in Markdown, and can export/copy the Markdown in HTML within the app itself? Live preview is preferred but not essential. Thanks!

Deframentation time and Portable - Compatible?

Submitted by Gladry on January 19, 2014 - 2:36pm

First - This may have already been discussed but I tried "Find" and "search" on forums home page and found no search ability.

Can you really put a defragmenter on a portable device?
A badly fragmented drive may take hours to defrag and you might want to remove the portable drive and use it elsewhwere before defrag is finished.

Does the portable app copy the defrag program to a temp directory on the drive to be defragmented before beginning defrag? I've looked at the various doc pages and no indication of this.

Ever since Opera discontinued it's proprietary web engine..
i've been confused as to which browser to use ..
i haven't had to think about this in many years..

Just wanted to say thank you for the multiple browser options you folks have posted..

Really loving IronPortable .. the launcher.ini file configuration is very convenient ..

About AppData directory

Submitted by farat_as on January 9, 2014 - 11:27am

Hi,

I see that many files is leaving under C:\Users\user-name\AppData\Roaming by portable apps even they close properly.

I know that user-name\AppData\Roaming directory is using for user-data files (it equals of /home/user-name directory on linux).

So if I open an app which is installed locally on machine, it will resume with portable-apps.com user datas?

And out of curiosity... I wanna ask what is the differences between folders:

C:\Users\user-name\AppData\Local
C:\Users\user-name\AppData\LocalLow
C:\Users\user-name\AppData\Roaming
C:\ProgramData

Suggestion for associating files with PortableApps? eXpresso links seem to be dead

Submitted by Rochey on January 9, 2014 - 4:39am

Hi all,

I'm looking for something that will associate the files with the programs on my portableapps devices (only while the platform is running). I think eXpresso 1.3.1 is the latest and greatest but all the links that I can find are dead. I also did hear that file association was going to be integrated with the platform but I can't seem to find any information on whether this has happened or not.

Could anybody point me in the right direction please?

Thanks,
Rochey

Download Method Alternatives (Issues, and Suggestions)

Submitted by pauserSTOPSTEAL... on January 8, 2014 - 7:00am

hi.

As it stands using the built in download-er:
- Issue 1. I have to click each program individually, (There is no selection of a whole category)
- Issue 2. The auto installer reports Inaccurately when cancelling an installation (On its License Agreement Window): it says:
- "install Complete" rather than "Cancelled".

Issue 3. The built-in download-er seems to vary in speed compared to downloading via web browser.

Alternatively by using the site to download apps:
- Issue 1. I cannot download a bundle of programs at once.

As a suggestion:

Excessively long save file names for portableapps.com webpages

Submitted by pauserSTOPSTEAL... on January 8, 2014 - 3:24am

hi.

Would it be possible to change the tags used in webpages please?

or would this be detrimental?

Currently it is:
''Outdated Official Portable Applications | PortableApps.com - Portable software for USB, portable and cloud drives''

Which results in firefox suggesting a saveAs file name of:
"Outdated Official Portable Applications _ PortableApps.com - Portable software for USB, portable and cloud drives.htm"

Thanks for your time.

How can I easily list all 64 bit Programs on the website?

Submitted by pauserSTOPSTEAL... on January 8, 2014 - 2:54am

hi,
I have searched the forum and found a few discussions about 64bit programs.

I fully support maintaining both 32bit and 64bit versions where possible of each program.

However the only way I can see to identify which programs have 64bit versions via browsing the portableapps.com website is to browse every single page for each program.

Is there another way?
(aside from downloading all programs using the PA platform on a 64bit machine)

Thanks.

p.s
if not: could this be accepted as a usability suggestion please?
