Kitty update What the hell .... !!!!!

Hello,

Since when on a portable app, one update software delete all profiles !!!!

You ruined my day with the last update of the kitty, all profiles has been deleted and now some of them stored are lost.

Next time , put a warning that updating one application can delete all !!!

This is really not proffessional !

And about your forum and website fully loaded of advertising is really ugly !

Time to stop after 3 years of use of your portable app but now Game OVER for all my contacts and stop to buy your usb key !

A vanished user !

No Changes

I'm sorry to hear about your issue. No changes have been made to the way KiTTY works and all settings are moved back and forth between the App\KiTTY directory and the Data directory and preserved on upgrade. Did KiTTY Portable happen to crash on last use or was it left running when Windows was shut down (which effectively crashes it)? That's the only thing I can think of that would cause a loss of data. A crash followed by an upgrade without the app being run once before it happens would trigger this issue, since your data would be left in the App directory which is wiped on upgrades. Do you happen to have a recent backup say with the platform's built-in backup utility? If so, I can walk you through restoring just that app. Additionally, I've made changes to KiTTY's upgrade process to check for crashes and preserve the data within App on the off chance someone runs into this scenario in the future. This will debut in the next release.

No, i checked manually, the

No, i checked manually, the folder is well empty and the date of last modification is the date of the update !

I have no backup of this data .... because usually one update of binary doesn't touch the user data ...

So clearly your statement is => Do Never update because you can loose all your DATA ... woow i feel secure now for my mozilla email too !

Anyway i lost all my profiles and it will take ages to recover all of them.

Now i am already searching one alternative and stop to use your product !

Crash, Backups

Which folder is empty?

A crash is really the only situation that would cause the data to be destroyed in the current upgrade process (app crashed by itself or due to a Windows shutdown and then upgrade without running the app). Technically, that's the only situation that would cause loss of data unless there are other issues. Other issues would be errors on the drive, which can cause all sorts of issues.

I never stated or implied that updating would affect data otherwise. We test all our apps to ensure upgrades preserve data and there are millions of other users that can attest to this.

As for backups, you should reconsider this. Backing up at least weekly should be done with any drive, whether local or removable, no matter how secure you feel with it. Every single drive will fail at some point. It's not if, it's when. I had a brand new laptop drive fail on me a month after I bought it, taking with it 3 songs I wrote and had no backup of. That's when I learned the backup lesson.

An understandable reaction

I also have had new netbooks fails within months of buying them. Bottom line, if something is important you back it up. Unfortunately we frequently don't know what is important until we loose it.

As for your lost files, do NOT write anything to the flash drive. Find a free undelete program like TestDisk or Recuva(sp?) and see if they can recover your files. Install them to your hard drive but run them for the flash drive.

You can recover from your backups

I double back up.

The portable apps on an USB.

--> 1. A copy on a laptop.
--> 2. Another copy as an archived version on an external disk, once every month.

Think that you can lost your USB or your computer can have a problem. It is not only that an applicaton misbehave in an unpredictable manner, there are other risks as well.
