google chrome portable crash test rating

Well, I went against John's advice and well, crashed google chrome (forced closed it with my fancy menu). And well, ever since then, its had a little memory problem. It doesn't remember anything I do. I mean all my most viewed pages had been reset and chrome never shows new ones on startup and it forgets all my settings that I change.

I was going to do a fresh install, but then I thought, will google still receive the stuff I type in the address bar? I mean I heard that google knows everything you look at through there web browser but can they see it now that its broken?

Lifehacker is doing a vote on the best portable app suites and we're happy to be in the lineup (thanks to our many awesome users who nominated us). And we'd love to have you show your support by voting for us in the poll!

Unfortunately, our competition contains illegal software (GPL, copyright, licensing, and trademark violations) and has stolen software from PortableApps.com (stripping off the GPL license, readme, source code, etc from our many portable application launchers and other open source utilities).

So please show your support for PortableApps.com by voting today:

SkypePortable extras disabled?

Submitted by foxcole on October 24, 2009 - 3:16am

Really not sure where to post this, so I hope it's okay to ask it here. I love having an official portable version of Skype but have a question. Why is the Extras option disabled? My daughter who lives 1700 miles away and I like to play some of the Skype games, and there are some extremely useful things such as collaboration tools, call recorders and avatar managers, for example. Is there a technical reason why extras wouldn't work with the portable version of Skype?

PortableApps.com will have soon a version of XnView

Straight from the author.

I emailed him a week or two ago about getting an official PAF version of XnView. There's the launcher, and then there's one made by somebody we collectively don't like. I basically covered all the high points of PAF/PortableApps.com, and just got a reply today. The topic title's the best part; the rest is "best regards".

So I don't know if he means he's already given permission, what with all the freeware... or if he's gonna do it himself. I'd rather the latter, then it wouldn't have to be a live installer.

Hi devs !

I'm an old portableapps user and thanks you for your great job, helpful every little day.

I just want to know if betas steps are passed for portableAPPS Updater because it's the only thing I'm really impatient to have !

I work in security on a hundred of computers and my apps HAVE to be up to date.
So where is the problem with portableAPPS Updater ? Still to many bug or logistic problems ? And the gold question: what is the timeline ?

Thank you for your awesome work guys !
See ya !

If you're on Lifehacker, please take a moment to vote for the PortableApps.com Suite here:
[UPDATE, VOTING IS NOW LIVE:]

Even if you don't have an account yet, sign up and post a vote anyway, they'll hopefully be counted. We'll post when the top five choice is so you can be sure to vote for us.

Side note: It would be kind of sad if one of the suites that illegally used our software won.

Is it time to have a forum topic for Portable Drive hardware?

Submitted by JPBates on October 22, 2009 - 5:37pm

As we see the ever increasing number of portable applications come into the inventory, we begin to see the computer becoming a flash drive, a USB port (especially when USB 3 comes on-line)and a box with RAM, CPU, keyboard, monitor and an OS. For this emerging computing environment, the physical characteristics of the Flash Drive hardware will become evermore important.

Google Chrome

Please permit me to make note that it is well known that "Google" is the greatest antithesis to privacy in the world today.
One of the main ideals of PortableApps is to protect user privacy, so it seems to be very bad news that this new browser has been added to the list of applications.
Anyone who is truly concerned about not being tracked and recorded should not use this or any Google program.
