New Online Antivirus Scan Explanation. Thoughts?

Hi all. I've put up a new page when clicking Antivirus Scan from some app pages. It's just on the Accessibility apps so far for a quick test. We've had some folks unfamiliar with VirusTotal think that a couple false positives mean that a file is infected. The new page is meant to alleviate that issue. Please check out, for example, Balabolka Portable and click the Antivirus Scan button below the download button to try it out and let me know what you think.

App has a dependency on DLL

Submitted by bagowarrior on March 16, 2020 - 12:20pm

Creating a portable app, it needs a DLL in system32 (one from Visual C++) and I have tried the app with the DLL in the same folder as the .exe but it doesn't work unless it's in system32. How is it possible to handle this? Would it mean I would have to create an app that requires admin access to add the DLL to system32?

Cheers

[Closed] Viruses in most of the apps on this website?

Submitted by OrbLord on March 1, 2020 - 12:08pm

Hi, so I started using portable apps recently. I deemed this website safe and assumed the code+files had been scanned in order to earn the right to be displayed here. This was until I noticed the manual Antivirus scan on the individual app page. I scanned the apps I was using and most of them were laced with something, so I just deleted everything. I think it is a pity, portable apps has a lot of potential and I considered this website my main repository. Are developers or admins doing anything to combat this?

Bug in PA package for SUMo & DUMo

Submitted by Kyle_Katarn on February 25, 2020 - 3:53pm

Hello,

Some PA users are reporting that :
- Installing PA package for SUMo & DUMo
- Inserting licence for both DUMo and SUMo in their PA instanciation
- Updating packages with PA updater

leads to licence to be automatically removed.

We do not face this problem with SUMo "installed" or "portable" (as standard zip package). Therefore, could this come from the PA updater management of app settings (not "transferring" Name and Pass reg parameters) ?

I'm the developper of these products, please contact me if tech details are needed.

Running portable apps now makes Windows crash

Submitted by prr on February 21, 2020 - 12:50am

The last two days at work, running W10 desktops, I have made windows crash (getting a blue screen that talks about a dump (like the one seen here: https://www.drivereasy.com/knowledge/how-to-fix-blue-screen-of-death-bso...) after clicking on a portable app on my flash drive. I have searched a bit and read that the cause can be withdrawing the drive before Windows has properly shut the drive down.

[Fixed] DB Browser 3.11.2 missing MSVCR120.dll

Submitted by corvus on February 19, 2020 - 9:41am

I can't get this to run, there's a small kick in the CPU usage according to Task Manager but then nothing.

I have two previous versions of the same thing, all located as separate directories under C:\Portable Apps\SQL Utilities but I've also tried it from other locations (and downloaded it twice, just in case).

The other two work fine, and produce entries in Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\sqlitebrowser\sqlitebrowser, but the new one doesn't get that far.

Can anyone suggest what I should try next please.

Where do updates go after PortableApps.com Platform downloads and installs them?

Submitted by ardouronerous on February 19, 2020 - 3:58am

Hello, I'd like to know where PortableApps.com Platform stores the updates after downloading and installing them.

I'd like to be able to keep a copy of the exe.paf files downloaded by PAP, instead of downloading them a second time off the website.

Thanks.
