Self-Promotion is NOT Permitted -- Comments sought...

NOTE: I'm working on a firm policy against self-promotional postings to try to avoid instances like the AppOnKey guy that was spamming the forums. I'd like some thoughts and opinions on the following. THANKS!

Please be aware that self-promotional postings are NOT permitted. The goal of this site isn't to let everyone promote their own products or sites. There are a few exceptions, though:

1. If someone asks a question that is directly relevant to your product then it makes perfect sense to chime in. Examples would be questions or comments about your product directly... or someone asking if anyone knows of a good product that does X and your product happens to do X.

IMPROVED: Howto: Safely remove USB Drive from batch file

EDIT 3: Much better version posted later on at https://portableapps.com/node/639#comment-2238

EDIT: Updated scripts, fully working with autorun and no dos boxes are in my reply below.

EDIT 2: This doesn't work from a limited account, but doesn't cause any problems, it just won't automatically unmount if you aren't an administrator.

portables on linux - ?

Submitted by towsonu2003 on January 20, 2006 - 10:10pm

I am in love with your portable applications, especially firefox and openoffice. I keep unzipping them to computers where I'm not an administrator (ie school library computers). I love the fact that I can use openoffice in a university library that is in love with microsoft.

I was wondering whether you are planning to port them to linux. I would love to share the same firefox -themes, extensions, and bookmarks- (and use new openoffice without installation as my distro has the buggy beta) both in my desktop and laptop without screwing around.

thanks for the stuff. kicks a**!

PS. I found a couple of forum topics that suggest a portable linux (DSL) and one with no replies that asks the same thing.
