I've added a new forum called Beta Testing in the Development category. If you're interested in helping test out the apps and launchers and getting them ready for public release, this is the place to look. I've started it off with a beta version of the Portable OpenOffice.org launcher that fixes the Windows 2000 issue and allows portable settings with Windows 98/Me.

is there an opensource/freeware app that'll take a snapshot of the registry before and after an application is installed, so that one would know what registry entry has been added/modified.

I am trying to find out what options I have to do computing more securely.

Here are two questions regarding that:

1. Can I use a boot CD, like Knoppix or WinUBCD to boot and then start the Portable Apps from a USB stick?

2. Can the Portable Apps be run from a computer booted from a boot CD and where the internal hard drive is removed?

The reason I ask this is because I live in a country where we need to protect against the authorities getting onto our hard disks and doing whatever they would do without us knowing about it.

If I only access the internet through my flash drive with PFF,will I completely contain any possible Adware/Spyware,Hijacks,etc. on the removable drive?Or will elements of those "bugs" end up on other drives during their installations?I'm not enough of a techie to know such things.Just wondering......

I am having a very frustrating problem with Gmail and PTB, and was wondering if anyone might have some insights. I'll start with the usual preface to such postings: I've been using PTB through all the various versions to access my Gmail account via Pop3 since the start of september, and am now on PTB 1.5 RC1. It used to work fine, up until...

.. earlier this week, when I started getting "There is insufficient disk space to download all your email" errors. This is interesting, because I have about 60MB free on my USB stick. Checking via the web, the new email in my account adds up to be about 100kb or so. So, I did the suckers thing, and cleared out the USB stick, and Tb started downloaded everything that I had received since September (I have the "leave messages on the server" option box ticked.) I didn't think anything of it, deleted them all, and it went back to working normally for a few days. Since then, the problem has popped up a couple of times more, and although it can be solved in the same way, I'm getting right sick of it.

Just wanted to let everybody know that I'm doing a bit of traveling for business at the moment, so I haven't been as active on the forums, and I didn't get to post the Portable OO.o update or GIMP before I left (I didn't want to post them and then leave on the off-chance there was an issue). Keep an eye out later this week.
