Try out Minefield (aka Firefox 3.7 Alpha 1 Pre) as a portable app

I've posted an automated PortableApps.com Installer for Minefield Portable. This is the nightly test build for testing technologies that will be in a later version of Firefox. It's labeled as 3.7 Alpha 1 Pre (which means way before even alpha 1 stage) so it is unstable, may do bad things and similar scary statements. It's not for use as an everyday browser, but it can be interesting to test out features as they land in the Mozilla development trunk.

The installer will automatically download the current trunk build as part of the install process, so it will always be up to date.

Launchers Link On Site

I think it would be quite helpful if you added a "Launchers" link to the top of the PortableApps.com website. It could go between the links for Applications and Suite. It would be organized just like the applications page, with categories. If would be up to John if Beta/Development Releases were put there or not. I just get tired of searching the forum for specific Launchers when we could have all of them located in easy-to-find repository.

New "More News" Page

Since we've been doing a slew of updates recently, I figured it would be an appropriate time to debut the new "More News" page. This is a link you can click from the homepage to see the latest news from PortableApps.com including stories that have fallen off the homepage. It's a handy way to keep track of what's going on if you've been offline for a while. And a handy way to track new app releases until our updater goes live.

How I solved my Firefox install running slowly...

Submitted by MrMan on August 16, 2009 - 6:00am

I've seen many posts about Firefox being slow. I've seen tons of tweaks and tips posted. I have a much more "simplistic" approach.

I run other programs and things off of my PortableApps flash drive, and over time I noticed micro pauses in browsing. Recently this reached a point where it was more than a second or 10 and the FireFox logo in the upper left corner would turn into the default unknown icon windows uses. USB Cable problem?

Submitted by PollieXmas on August 15, 2009 - 6:40am

Hi All,

Recently I have been experiencing complete (random?) disconnects of my portable HDD.

My setup:
After dropping/destroying my drive once as a result of moving my notebook, I now use valcro to stick my 2.5" HDD case (Vantec NextStar 3) to the back of my notebook monitor. Then run a short usb cable to my usb port on the side.

I'm using PAM 2.0 Beta 3 on a HP nc6220 running XP Pro SP3.

Finding apps

Submitted by kamonw on August 14, 2009 - 8:31am

I just joined Portable apps yesterday and I thought I got to a page that listed thousands of apps. For instance if I click on the games link I get to a page that has around 10 games on it. But I thought that I got to a page yesterday that had several thousand games on it. I can't seem to get to that page again. How do I get there.
