Using Bit Torrent for downloads

Submitted by timbuctoo on March 8, 2009 - 1:48am

Instead of loading the sourceforge servers, using the bit torrent protocol would be a better bet for downloads like the Portable Apps suite, as it is massive in size compared to individual programs. It makes sense given the volume of downloads reported by the site.

Many Linux OS distributions have also adopted the same approach as it saves them a lot of server bandwidth.

I wanted to begin a discussion on the actual setup of themes in PortableApps.com Theme Format which is what we'll be using for 2.0 and up. I did a quick example theme that you can download to play with. Get it here:

Adding Shortcuts

Submitted by mrbill on March 6, 2009 - 8:14pm

Is there a way to add a shortcut to the PortableApps start page to a program that is not in portable format, but is on the USB Drive? I am using Dream Mail and it is on my USB drive, but it is a pain to have to "Explore" the drive to open my email program instead of being able to at least open it from PortableApps.

Bootloader that can boot multiple ISOs at startup?

Submitted by path0s on March 6, 2009 - 12:32pm

I hope this is the proper forum to post this in. Apologies in advance if not!

I've seen an app on a bootable DVD quite a while ago that lets you select from multiple ISOs on the dvd to boot from. I can't for the life of me remember what the DVD was though.

I'd like to be able to do the same thing. Put several .iso files on a bootable usb drive and have a little menu at boot time to pick which iso to boot from. Like a rescue cd, my windows install disc, etc etc..

bin to iso

Is there a free, open source and portable app. which can convert cue/bin to iso? I know you can extract files from either type with e.g. 7-Zip and you can burn (and possibly make?) both types with InfraRecorder, but I need an app. which can convert from one format to another.
