Miranda IM

Submitted by MoHaG on January 14, 2006 - 6:31am

It might be a good idea to distribute a portable version of Miranda IM (http://www.miranda-im.org) rather than (or in addition to) gaim.

It only requires a single line to be modified in 'mirandaboot.ini' in order to make it save its settings in the current folder rather than in Documents and settings.

My version is less than 5MB extracted (with a large amount of optional plugins) and the full installer on their site is less than 1MB. It does not require GTK. Its only disadvantage that I know of to Gaim is that it is availible for Windows only.

I have not copared it directly with Gaim

I know this would be very intensive and difficult to do, but do you think that you could package WINE so that I can run my portable apps on a Linux box without WINE installed locally?

Keyboard macro program

Submitted by Terry on January 12, 2006 - 6:18pm

I recently discovered portableapps.com. The site and the concept have a future. One of the first programs I looked for was a portable keyboard macro program, which would be very useful when going from computer to computer. I did not find one at portableapps.com. However, in searching the Internet I found AutoHotkey at http://www.autohotkey.com/. It is opensource and looks very promising, comes in an installer or in a zip file with the files (not an installer simply zipped).

&RQ - it's an ICQ-client. Very powerful and nice Smile
Small size, portable contact list with save\load options from\to isq server, visibility check, save settings in .INI file, no records to registry, local history, many skins. I use it myself as portable messenger. So, as you see it's really good... Smile
