Create Portable Apps: Tutorial for beginners?

Submitted by owilsky on July 23, 2007 - 11:14am

Hi,

can anybody point me to some kind of tutorial how to create a simple portable app?
I know the ApplicationPortableTemplate.nsi but the docs are not made for beginners, are they? Wink

I have a Java application that saves its configuration in UserProfileDir/.appname and I thought this would be a good exercise Wink

Thanks for every help I can get,
Oliver

Hi John,

last weekend we had a meeting of members of OpenOffice.org Deutschland e. V.

At this meeting we discuss ways to support other communities/persons who also work on Open Source Software.

I'm happy to inform You, that we will sponsor PortableApps.com with 500 Euro for the technical charges of hosting PortableApps.com.
Perhaps we could do more in the future.
At the moment it is a first step to show You our will to support this great project.

Please contact me via email in order to discuss the details.

Regards
Marko

Batch files.

Submitted by King Tut on July 23, 2007 - 3:29am

I'm making a batch file launch script thingy, and I was looking at licenses. Can I, (or should I) put a license on it? It would obviously be open source...
But then I thought that I might not even be able to put a license on a batch script.

So what do you guys think I should do? This is really just a step towards my eventual leap into programming, and I'd like to keep my work as my own, not as someone else posting it as their own and saying they made it. Sad

SciTE and Notepad++

Submitted by King Tut on July 23, 2007 - 1:13am

So a while ago I download SciTE, and I like it, and then I see an official release of Notepad++ which I downloaded a few minutes ago and there seems to be no (major) difference.

So are you going to release both, or were you trialling both and then decided that Notepad++ was more appreciated by the community?

Icons

Submitted by yosseeppii on July 22, 2007 - 1:17pm

Hello everyone, I'm really new to Portable Apps.

I'm using the Portable Apps mod r15 and my Icons for each application are not showing up. There is just a black outline of a box in place of each icon.

Does anyone know why this is?

Thanks!

Help with creating

Submitted by andyle2k on July 20, 2007 - 4:19am

Hi guys,

Recently I've been very addicted to the whole portable app thing, even looked into virtualization and all that business.

I'm currently using SpeedCommander as my file manager and I love it so I had the bright idea of trying to make it portable. Unfortunately I'm not talented enough to figure out all the settings to get it working right from reading the templates and other .nsi source codes!
