Wish: Integration of Truecrypt in Portable Apps

Submitted by mmeuter on November 14, 2008 - 1:11pm

I would like to protect my USB stick but if i put all applications into a Truecrypt image, I can only use them, if I have administrator privileges which severely limits portability. On the other hand I would like to protect some of the applications, like Thunderbird or Sunbird, while the most could remain free. One possibility would be to install one portable app on a protected portion of the drive, others on the free part, but then you have two menus, making it not an elegant choice. It would like to be able to mount programs into the menu from a truecrypted image.

Portable Apps update checker

Submitted by barryrei on November 6, 2008 - 12:47pm

I find this portable app concept incredibly useful. I work in a computer test lab, so I have my desk PC's, home PC's, and hundreds of test PC's in a lab that I use. Being able to take my applications with me and use them rather than downloading, setting them up, and then using them in each location is awesome. I have only one complaint; I never know if I'm up to date.

A possible suggestion for the Menu

Submitted by Spring Mywell on November 6, 2008 - 12:24pm

When you go to install a Portable App through the menu, you still have to say you agree with where it's going to install it. Wouldn't it make sense to just have it install automatically without needing to know where if it is installing through the menu?

I mean, If i'm using the menu, there is only one place it should be installing to, shouldn't it?

You could have a command line switch to run between a normal installation and an installation through a menu, so that when run normally, it asks where to save it.

Portable .NET

I've noticed that a lot of people have been requesting apps that are dependent on .NET framework. I found this on Sourceforge and was wondering if this could be integrated into the PA Suite. I don't know the licenses of .NET so I don't even know if this is legal, but I thought it would be worth checking out:
