Features

Toucan Screenshot Toucan is a small utility allowing you to synchronise, backup and secure your data with more options than the built in suite utilities. Its features include:

  • Four synchronization modes, copy, update, mirror and equalize.
  • Four backup modes, complete, update, incremental and restore, in industry standard zip and 7-zip files
  • AES-256 encryption using ccrypt.
  • Command line support, allows you to create a batch file for repeated jobs

New In This Release

Toucan 2.2.0 is a major update to Toucan and includes many updates and bugfixes. Mostly notably there have been a number of improvements to the user interface, mainly to improve consistency, and improved efficiency throughout. Variables are now supported with rules, the helpfile has had many updates and you can now use a drives volume label as a variable. Also Backup and Secure now live preview, no need to click Preview every time you change your Rules. Finally Greek and Swedish language support has been added. As always Toucan is looking for translators, please see this thread for more information.

Translations

There are a number of Toucan translations that are missing words and short phrases, if you are willing to help update them they can be seen here. If you wish to translate Toucan to a new language please see here.

Important Note - Differential Backup

In previous version of Toucan the Backup Differential mode supported multiple source folders, there is however a bug in this mode that meant the files were not all backed up into a single archive but spread across as many archives as there were source folders. Because of this it is no longer supported, please ensure that your backups are correct and up to date.

PortableApps.com Installer / PortableApps.com Format

Toucan is packaged in a PortableApps.com Installer so it will automatically detect an existing PortableApps.com installation when your drive is plugged in. And it's in PortableApps.com Format, so it automatically works with the PortableApps.com Suite including the Menu and Backup Utility.

Toucan is available for immediate download from the Toucan homepage. Get it today!

Comments

First of all: thanks for your work John!
Two feed back to improve the usability of Toucan for the next release.
1) can you display the Progress window also for the Preview mode?
2) in Progress window can you distinguish between copied and overwrited files (as it was in the 1.x release?
with that two changes I think you will facilitate a lot our job.
Thanks again

I love the software but it appears that this version takes longer to load than 1.1.2.

Did something major change?

Thanks

I've been having major problems with this. When it stars up, It gives me a message about not being able to read the jobs folder, and just quits. I'm using(or trying to use) Toucan 2.2.0. and the current(non beta) platform on Windows XP Home SP3

Well I did have 3 request/suggestions such as only syncing the most recent files with a specifiable period but it looks like that and so much more will be taken care of in Toucan3.0 scripting section. This will soon be the Ultimate backup program (shame it does very occasionally crash but it does no harm and can complete if re-started).
Many Thanks Steve & John.

Hmmm, it doesn't crash for me... Pardon
