OpenOffice.org Portable 3.2.0 ReleasedSubmitted by John T. Haller on February 25, 2010 - 11:20pm
Features
New in This ReleaseThis release updates OpenOffice.org to 3.2.0 (release notes) and features an improved installer and adds Danish, Greek, Korean and Traditional Chinese language packs. It also works well with the Java Portable add-on. Extra Icon SetsExtra icon sets (Classic, Crystal, High-Contrast, Industrial and Tango) are available as an optional Image Pack download to save space. The new (and much improved) Galaxy icon set is included by default. Working Closer With OpenOffice.orgThis release marks another milestone as we work more closely with the OpenOffice.org team. We'll be sharing resources and using their QA process moving forward for releases as we become a more official part of the OpenOffice.org world. PortableApps.com Installer / PortableApps.com FormatOpenOffice.org Portable is packaged in a PortableApps.com Installer so it will automatically detect an existing PortableApps.com installation when your drive is plugged in. It will automatically upgrade an existing OpenOffice.org Portable installation without affecting your settings. And it's in PortableApps.com Format, so it automatically works with the PortableApps.com Suite including the Menu and Backup Utility. DownloadOpenOffice.org Portable is available for immediate download from the OpenOffice.org Portable homepage. You can get the German release from the German homepage and the other language versions from the Localization page. Get it today! ( categories: )

Release Delay
We're sorry for the delay on this, but we were waiting for all our supported languages to be complete from the various OpenOffice.org teams around the world before announcing. We've now got 15 languages supported including the newly-added Danish, Korean and Traditional Chinese!

John, I never cease to be amazed at the speed at which you are able to turn these updates around. You must never sleep. Thank you
EEE PC update
thanks for your hard work I have had some friends that want an update for their Eee PCs and PortableApps.com's version I find works the best!!
Downloading!
Thank you!
EDIT: Yay, OOXML support
Long Filenames
It still seems that long filenames cause openoffice to break. I'm trying to install to C:\Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\local programs\, but that's too long for openoffice. Since I'm not the administrator I don't have a lot of options of where to put it.
Full error:
Settings.xcu is corrupt in folder /OpenOfficePortable/App/openoffice/share/uno_packages/cache/registry/ com.sun.star.comp.deployment.configuration.PackageRegistryBackend/registry/ data/org/openoffice/Office/OOoImprovement/
and
StartModuleWindowState.xcu, GlobalSettings.xcu, and StartModuleCommands.xcu are corrupt in folder/OpenOfficePortable/App/openoffice/share/uno_packages/cache/registry/ com.sun.star.comp.deployment.configuration.PackageRegistryBackend/ registry/data/org/openoffice/Office/UI/
Here's hoping for a fix, whether it's from portableapps or the main openoffice project.
[Path name broken up a bit to stop the page stretching - mod Chris]
No Fix
There is no fix. It is a Windows issue. You need to install to a standard path like C:\PortableApps\OpenOfficePortable. You haven't been able to install to My Documents for many many versions now and probably never will in the future. There's nothing we can do about it. OO.o itself could shorten its paths, but as it isn't an issue from Program Files or when installed to a standard PortableApps directory, that's highly unlikely.
There was a check in the installer that would warn about too-long paths but it looks like it was left out of the current build. I'll see about adding it back in.

The check is allready present ...
... but it is in the Launcher, not in the installer.
It will warn if the path is longer than 120 characters.
I'll check if we have to set the count to a lower level for the next version.
THX for the quick release John!

Long filenames
I thought 255 chars was the max length of a path?
Const MAX_PATH = 256, but there's a trailing null byte so, for all practical purposes, 255 chars should be the max length. From http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q177665/
There are ways to work around that, but I don't think they're recommended.

Your're right for Windows but ...
... OpenOffice.org itself has problems with long paths shorter than 256 chars but longer than 120

Thanks for the update!
Thanks for the update! Working well and the install process was seamless, as usual.

ouch!
I had (have) my fonts in /OpenOfficePortable/App/share/fonts.
When I upgraded OO no longer finds them. I can't seem to do anything in OO to remedy the problem. I think I'll have to roll-back to a previous version...
(+edit) 3.1.1 finds my fonts fine in the above folder, but 3.2 doesn't. This is mildly annoying,
I think I'm missing something obvious. If anyone has any ideas, I'd love to hear them!
You have to use the right fonts folder :-)
Put Your fonts at OpenOfficePortable\App\openoffice\share\fonts\truetype and it will work in 3.2 too.

thank you for the reply
I appreciate it. I'm one of the people that sit back in appreciation of the work you guys do here.
Unfortunately, 3.2 still won't recognise my fonts - Yet 3.1.1 has no trouble.
My full path is :\portableapps\PortableApps\OpenOfficePortable\App\openoffice\share\fonts\truetype
I read the issue about long path names above, but I don't think that is relevant here. Strange that there are no problems in 3.1.1 - To be honest it is not a big problem as 3.1.1 works well.
trying to add .mpg or .mpeg
trying to add .mpg or .mpeg files and with 3.2 being told it isn't supported. however try using 3.1.1 on ubuntu and i have no problems...
This depends on the host system...
... if mpeg and the needed codecs is supported by the windows host system it will be played in impress too.
Don't mix up a standard OpenOffice.org installation with systemintegration with the portable version on different Windows host. The same portable will play the video on one system with the needed codecs and will fail on another system without it.

so... I installed the
so... I installed the portable java JRE too, but that didn't help... you are saying that if it has the appropriate codecs to play the file it should work?
Yes ...
... if the host system is able to play it, it should work in OpenOffice.org portable too.

formula problem
hello all,
I just tried the open office writer as well as math and I ran into some math symbol problem. Ex: I tried to insert a formula: "vec a" and I don't get the arrow above the letter "a", instead I have a square box above "a". Similiar happen to other math related formula.
I'm just wondering if this is related to the portable version of open office. I haven't tried the installed version.
Thank you for your help.
Cheers,
Chuong
ps: Open office is much faster than version 2. I'm thinking switching to this as main Office editor.
Fix for the font problems ...
the font management of OpenOffice.org seems to be changed again.
Please move the folder fonts from openoffice/share to openoffice/Basis/share.
This should fix the issues.

Confirmed For All
Can you confirm this issue for all builds? If that's the case, I'll do a respin of it as Rev 2.

Confirmed for all builds ...
... cause its a result of the changed font management in OpenOffice.org 3.2.
I'll send You the new build environment (this will have the fix for this issue too and the better language handling).

works perfectly for me now, cheers
Thank you for your response.
Thank you for your response. Work flawlessly now.
Did I see new version?
Why is the OpenOffice.org team did not update the PortableApps.com application of 3.2.1 version 4 months ago? There are new icons that I see that are replaced the older icons?
Ask Oracle
PortableApps.com is awaiting permission from Oracle to repackage OpenOfficePortable. The ball is in Oracle's court.
What He Said
What Darkbee said. We're in active negotiations with Oracle on the licensing. Anyone currently distributing OO.o 3.2.1 portably is doing so illegally.
