logoJava Portable 6 Update 22 has been released by PortableApps.com. Java Portable allows you to easily install the Java runtime engine to your PortableApps.com-enabled device for use with portable apps like OpenOffice.org Portable, all without any Java runtime on the local PC. This release updates Java Portable to the latest release. It's packaged in PortableApps.com Format for easy use from any portable device and integration with the PortableApps.com Suite. And it's completely free.

Read on for more details...

Note: The PortableApps.com Updater does not yet update add-ons, just portable apps. So, please download and install this as you would a new app.

Features

Java Portable allows you to easily add a Java runtime environment to your portable device. It automatically works with apps in PortableApps.com Format like OpenOffice.org Portable. No Java runtime environment needs to be installed on the local machine and no admin rights are required. The JVM will be downloaded directly from Oracle's servers as part of the installation process.

Java Portable Launcher

In addition to using Java Portable with portable apps packaged in PortableApps.com Format, you can also use our Java Portable Launcher to run Java apps in JAR format. It will even automatically portablize the settings of many Java apps.

Java Portable Apps Coming

This release of Java Portable marks the beginning of Java apps on the PortableApps.com Platform. We have an array of Java-based portable apps in testing and will begin releasing them soon.

PortableApps.com Installer / PortableApps.com Format

Java Portable is packaged as a PortableApps.com Installer so it will automatically detect an existing PortableApps.com installation when your drive is plugged in. It supports upgrades by installing right over an existing copy, preserving all settings. And it's in PortableApps.com Format, so it automatically works with the PortableApps.com Suite including the Menu and Backup Utility.

Download

The PortableApps.com Installer is available for immediate download from the Java Portable homepage. Get it today!

unless you already know this, the trademark stated on this page and the download page still say Sun Microsystems, Inc.

Edit: also the license in the installer says Sun as well, just pointing this out

I've fixed this on the site and pushed out a changed installer with the newer EULA. It should hit the mirrors shortly.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

"The Sun JVM will be downloaded directly from Sun's servers as part of the installation process." needs fixing as well.

...

My apologies if this has already been asked & answered elsewhere but...

Why doesn't Java Portable get updated via the new PA.c Updater function? I still have to update it manually but maybe I'm doing something wrong.

[edit] Well duh, should've read the whole post before I commented! I'll just crawl back in my screen now. [/edit]
