The firefox addon "PlainOldFavorites" is one I really do rely on. However this addon does not function correctly with x64 firefox or any of its derivatives (PaleMoon or Waterfox). Since this addon is non-functional with portable 43.0.1 I have reverted to portable 42.
The author of this addon has been asked for at least 2 years to provide x64 support and as there has been no public acknowledgement of this problem I am assuming it will not be addressed.
I have tried winPenPack's X-Firefox 43.0.1 and can confirm the addon works with it. So I must assume it is a x86 only implementation.

Please provide an x86 only implementation of the latest portable firefox.

Thank you for this information.
However it was a little vague as to which ini file to update. My first attempt with E:\PortableApps\FirefoxPortable\Data\settings\FirefoxPortableSettings.ini did not work. I found 2 more ini files which I subsequently updated: E:\PortableApps\FirefoxPortable\App\DefaultData\settings\FirefoxPortableSettings.ini and E:\PortableApps\FirefoxPortable\App\AppInfo\installer.ini. I also deleted the 64bit directory. I am not sure which of these actions actually provided the functional 32bit invocation, but I suspect it was the update of installer.ini.
Will I have to go through the same process after upgrading to portable 43.0.2 when it comes out ?

You have to modify the FirefoxPortable.ini in Other/Source and (that's the important part) copy/move it next to the launcher (FirefoxPortable.exe). This way, it is preserved during updates. The file in DefaultData gets overwritten during an update.
The use of FirefoxPortable.ini is described in the readme.txt in Other/Source.

As explained in the readme.txt, you copy FirefoxPortable.ini from Other\Source to the directory with FirefoxPortable.ini and then change the settings. None of the other INI files will have any effect, which is why they aren't mentioned anywhere. This change is remembered on each upgrade.

You should contact the extension author. It's pretty irresponsible for it not to work with the 64-bit version as the author has had about a year of warning that it was coming.
