this was made by request. made it with game maker because im bad at c++, but it still works perfect. I believe everything posted here is to be open source so ill post the source. mind you ya need game maker 7 to view edit and recompile it. it works with pam, geek menu, basically it will launch any application but its meant for pam or a mod of it. oh and it works only if it is in the same directory as the app its launching or lower. eg "GeekMenu.exe" works, "/geekmenu/GeekMenu.exe" works, but ".geekmenu/GeekMenu.exe" will not work. periods = X_x error! so heres the download: http://lolgasmforums.googlepages.com/PamStartButton.zip and heres the editable: http://lolgasmforums.googlepages.com/startbutton.gmk update: it should now save the button position but the changing of whether or not its on top was taken out because it stoped the skinning from working. you can now change the button image. as soon as you run it two images appear. change pambutton.gif to what you want the button to look like, the image will be centered and the bottom left pixel and all corresponding colors will change to white. pama.bmp is monochrome. thats important. black is not there, white is there. rerun the program to see changes. When I started it it was a black dot in the center of the screen with random lines flashing that you could see the image through. After moving it around for a bit (leaving these nifty logos behind) the button became visible. However if you click the button while it is inside the area the menu will pop up in it makes the button go black again. Also "always on top" might not be the best state for the button.
It does open PAM.
Again, cool idea! Now make it work
EDIT: OK after further testing, the button itself doesn't actually display the image until you touch the edge of the screen with it. Any edge.

Still getting the same
Still getting the same effect, unless I tell it not to be on top. It then shows the white corners on the button, but it doesn't leave the trails. If it is behind the menu when it opens, it flashes through. It also leaves a button on the taskbar.
Oh and allow me to introduce you to Sputnik, that's the skin suite. It was actually what got me into doing skin ports. The setup shown there is actually all WinSTEP http://www.winstep.net/ , I'm testing out the 30 day trial. I already own Object Desktop http://www.stardock.com/products/odnt/ which is great.

Couple of things
1. Is there any FOSS (Free/Open Source) compilers that can compile .gmk files? Because having to buy a commercial product to compile an open source software kinda defeats the purpose of open source.
2. I can't get this to work it keeps giving me an error that geekmenu cannot be executed. Your software's exe is at the root of my drive. Any help would be appreciated...

oh well.
hmm this is what i was afraid of. the transparency refuses to work at all. i made a new version with no transparency. redownload. oh and dontfeellikepressingbacktofindhisname has a point. i cant use stuff that costs money or that kind of defeats the purpose. so ill give you a totally OK program that will bypass your non registered troubles.

If you tell it to not be on top the white square appears, and doesn't go away even if you set back to on top. If it is behind PAM it flashes through (might not be anything you can do about that)
As long as you leave it on top when it first runs it works perfectly.
Can you make it remember position, or does it have to start in the center of the screen?
Would it be possible to have it use an image in the same directory as the button? We could then skin it to match the menu skin.

Do you have permission to redistribute Game Maker Pro? It looks like they want people to register (at least) before downloading, so distributing without registration or specific permission may get you into trouble.
By the way, the file I got when I downloaded didn't seem to be complete; it made a "file not found" popup.

it says its a trojan because it modifies softwrap protection of the game maker file. @whatshisname you have to have it in the gm folder. and am i allowed to redistribute that file? yeah. game maker pro is just game maker with a serial number. this is only named game maker pro so it looks good in pam. its a hack.
edit: ill make it remember the position and add image changing support. imade changing might require a file for alpha.

Since I got this to work, and that MISIIM mentioned a free version of GameMaker (so one can compile the source of this w/o paying) I would love to include this and Ninja Command into my suites...
In addition could you make it so the button could also collapse the menu.
Also the button does not work when a maximized window is present...
And I need to know what license the button and Ninja Command is released under...

1) impossible. well, it require a totally different method. in the newer versions pam comes up when you execute it instead of reopening like previous versions so this just executes it.

In order to promote here your software has to be released under an OSI approved license, like GPL, and so far I am convinced your software does not meet that criteria...

The button I have works fine with maximized windows open. I still wish the alpha transparency worked when not "on top" but I guess we can design square buttons.
How would the positioning work? Would it be an x,y positioning thing? I was thinking if you had a position set and then plugged in to a smaller monitor it might appear off screen.
Would it be possible have an option to hide the taskbar button?
What is the pama.bmp used for? Is it the alpha mask for the button animation? Why does it get created in the folder but the main animation image is not?

the positioning is x&y but im going to make that percent next upload which ill do in like 5 minutes. pama.bmp is the alpha mask, and pambutton.gif should appear when it is run. i don't know why its not. the taskbar button can be gotten rid of i just have to get another dll ill get that in a minute. yes you ask enough questions. the more the better.

EjectScript 0.4 does not kill start button. I have to manually exit before I can eject the drive.

I have some Vista-ish PA icons incuding an orb start button and will probably come up with someting later today.

I use Cylog Toolbox to accomplish the same
It's freeware, and it really is portable out of the box - I haven't seen any reg or user folder entries generated.

Toolbox can be configured to be the size of one icon, or as big as a whole desktop.
It uses relative paths by default.
I've set it up as a single icon linked to the StartPortableApps exe file, and I can place it anywhere.
