Gimp 2.4.4 running from a locked usb-stick --> "error" message

Submitted by peter_g on February 22, 2008 - 3:28pm.

I was trying to run GimpPortable 2.4.4 from a locked usb-stick.

First I have installed it on my harddrive, I have run it once and then I have copied it to the usb-stick. After locking the usb drive, I ahve started it.
Well Gimp starts, but the startup is follow by an error (?) message:

Gimp Message

Unable to open a test swap file

To avoid data loss, please check the location and permissions
of the swap directory defined in your preferences (currently
"E:\GimpPortable\data\settings").

Is that message unavoidable ?
Is there a solution to abort that message ?

I guess

it appears because the usb is locked but I don't have a lockable one so I cant help you.

Sorry ....

Sorry for that !

I just tried out what is described in the Gimp Portable Support Page (http://portableapps.com/support/gimp_portable).

According to that page, Gimp Portable should run from CD "right out of the box" ....

you could try changing the

you could try changing the location of the swap directory to a hard drive. like c:

it seems to me that GIMP is expecting the swap location to be on the flash drive and obviously it can't write to that if you locked it.

Where in the menu will I find that ?

Open your GIMP Prefs at the

Open your GIMP Prefs

at the bottom of the lefthanded list is "Folders"
click on that and the Tmp and Swap items are shown on the right side of the window.

swap folder by default is in: PortableApps\GIMP\GIMPPortable\Data\settings

change it to where ever you think is a good place.
