How to change Firefox Portable icon

Submitted by Starcom on April 29, 2008 - 5:13am

It's not a question but an issue to do it because I need it and I wasn't able to found how to do. Perhaps it would be helpfull for someone else.

To change the Firefox Portable icon, you need a .ICO file, rename it into main-window.ico then put it into the path \FirefoxPortable\App\firefox\chrome\icons\default if they not exist, create all missed folders.

That's all Laughing out loud

Thanks!

I spent the better part of two hours trying to figure out how to do this on my own. I looked up programs to manually change the icons, but most cost money, which I wasn't willing to spend. The freeware screwed up the EXE file to make it unusable, and up until two minutes ago I was pulling my hair out trying to figure this out. Then it occurred to me that I should do a google search about the particular program I wanted to change, which led me here. Thank you so much!

Neat trick...

Neat trick, and thank you for the information. It makes me wonder how to change the Firefox icon that shows up in the PAc menu (so they match)? I guessing my answer resides in \PortableApps\FirefoxPortable\App\AppInfo. Suggestions? I don't want to break anything. Smiling

Argue for your limitations, and sure enough, they're yours.

yes

But you need to recompile the launcher (possibly with NSIS Edit (portable) http://portableapps.com/node/13990) with the script from the FirefoxPortable\Other\Source\FireFoxPortable.nsi after you do this.

I type this to you from Minefield, Portable Edition.

Nope

It's just FirefoxPortable\App\appicon.ico on the 1.5.x version and FirefoxPortable\App\appicon_16.png in the 2.0 beta of the platform and moving forward.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

Thanks!

Thank you for the clarification, I am fascinated by all of this and learning as I go...
