I think its better to leave them but close them (disable any more coments).

For what reasons should they be kept?
For what reason's should we spend time deleting them?
For the reason I said in the initial post.
I do notice some bumping of threads belonging to outdated post every now and then.
I will lock all old ones mentioned, but I won't be deleting any.
Such threads should be locked, but kept for archive and reference. There can be useful things left in them, such as bug reports, links, comments, and other things that may be useful for later testing/publishes, etc.
As for bumping old threads, that's generally not on things that have been released. Sometimes they resurrect things that should be addressed, though more commonly not for useful purposes. I think that they way we do it is good, the main thing is remembering to ask a mod to lock the topic, for example I only just remembered to ask Patrick to lock the BPBible Portable Pre-Release thread, even though it was released over a week ago. "Now, if I were a mod..."
(Oh, I do miss graphical smileys... http://drupal.org/project/Smileys indicates that Smileys for 6.x is still at Alpha 1 )
