Application: Texter
Category: Utilities
Description: Text substitution app Texter saves you countless keystrokes by replacing abbreviations with commonly used phrases you define. Unlike software-specific text replacement features, Texter runs in the Windows system tray and works in any application you're typing in. Texter can also set return-to markers for your cursor and insert clipboard contents into your replacement text, in addition to more advanced keyboard macros.

Why

are you copying the files non-silent?

"What about Love?" - "Overrated. Biochemically no different than eating large quantities of chocolate." - Al Pacino in The Devils Advocate

so that there would be more info...

I thought that way, people would not look at the installer and think it was hanging and try and cancel the install.

ah

That makes sense.
But all the other installers, even the big ones, do it differently.

ok

I'll ask around and see what I can do

Thanks for testing

Vista Hangup

Because of the "non-silent" file copying, I had a bit of a hard time on install. The PAF installer worked fine, but the copying window went down to "0 seconds remaining" and froze. It wouldn't close with "cancel" or by trying to close the window. The installer window wouldn't respond without the copying window closed, but it said "installation complete." The program seems to be working, but I had to close out the installer in Task Manager.

You may think it's funny,
but it'snot.

hmm...

Ok, but I have a feeling that the problem would have still happened if it was silent.

Could you replicate the problem?

and thanks for testing

Sounds similar to what i get

Sounds similar to what i get with the Java Portabalizer (also Vista) - t hangs after the copying and can't be closed. Clicking finish on the installer window should close the copying window too if it is the same.

this should be fixed

now it no longer copies on the installer

updated

It should install faster, as the 4000 txt files do not need to be copied
Note:

PLEASE DO NOT INSTALL ON TOP OF YOUR LAST TEXTER INSTALL. PLEASE DO A FRESH INSTALL.

Thanks

If you're having issues

If you're having issues making this portable, why didn't you use my version from 10 months ago as your baseline and then improve it from there?

I'm still offering this up for "adoption".

it basically works...

however you allow texter to create the files, however I did not like that because it takes a long time. So I include the files in the installer, and then I move the other folders around. I prefer this cause it will save a lot of time when someone launches the app. People will expect the installer to take some time, however they do not want a very long loading time when they are launching the application.

However, I will look at how you move the files around and see if I missed anything in the moving of files.
Thanks for the help

whoops...

I just realized I did not add the comment... sorry.

Well anyway here is the new release of TexterP

It should still work the same, all I did was update the launcher code and made it PAF compatible.

Back And At It

Remember before reading the following, remember how extremely picky I am. Sticking out tongue

  • In \

    • In the help.html -> remove capitals on tagline? Sticking out tongue
    • In the help.html -> change Frets On Fire Portable-Specific Issues to Portable App Issues.
  • In \App\AppInfo\

    • In appinfo.ini -> version number appear to be wrong.
    • In appinfo.ini -> Start should = TexterPortable.exe.
    • I'll assume there's 16's, 32's, and 48's in the required formats, I don't have anything to check.
  • In \Other\Source

    • In Readme.txt -> "Copyright 2004-2008 Powerjuce", I believe the year should be 2007 or 2008.
    • In Readme.txt -> this file mentions Eraser and Frets on Fire a few times.
    • In TexterPortable.nsi -> same thing applies to the copyright years.
    • In TexterPortable.nsi -> you've got a bunch of blank lines you can clean up. Eye-wink
    • In PortableApps.comInstallCustom.nsh -> why are you copying the files in the installer, and not before first launch in TexterPortable.nsi? There's only like 400KB worth of files as well.

[BUG?]: The 398KB or Data are copied when the installer runs, but on first run, everything in Data is deleted.

Also, as Texter starts in the system tray, I suggest you make perhaps a message box to alert the user on first run.

Also, Texter is working and replacing my words, but I don't see any default hot strings..., although it is replacing my words when it feels it should, like 'teh'. Is that correct?
