Do Portable apps leave traces ?

my company just gave us new laptops and we cannot even plug in a mouse without them checking if for virus first. If I plug in my thumb drive with Portable apps can it be traced or leave some sort of signature that it's been on my laptop?

Topic clarified by mod Tim
was "company computer"

Yes, Windows "remembers"

Yes, Windows "remembers" in various ways what has been run on a machine, MRU's, prefetch files, etc,

Our apps leave no Personal Data behind, they are NOT stealth.

Tim

Things have got to get better, they can't get worse, or can they?

One of moderators (Tim?) removed my comment.
I said "Search before posting.".

I guess that the reason was making this forum more friendly place, however in this case it's the opposite. I feel insulted by mil823 because he wasted my time (as well as everybody other reader's), led by laziness and a reasonable guess that sb.'s gonna do the search for him.

I feel that I have right to express my discontentment due to his practices.

Search?

I guess I'm a bit confused. I don't know what your problem is, but I'll bet it's hard to pronounce! I'd like to see things from your point of view but I can't seem to get my head that far up my butt.

What the hell are you talking about??? This was a legitimate question coming from a non-geek - unlike you! If you are so insulted by such a harmless question maybe you need to seek professional help!

You want an insulting question? What color panties are you wearing?

Search before posting and

Search before posting and stop wasting people's time. I have nothing more to say to you.

Keep it

civil please people.

m2, if it is this much of a waste of time to you then don't visit the site, you know we get lots of questions that could simply be searched for.

mil823, welcome to PortableApps.com, the reason m2 is annoyed is because this is a very common question on the site and using the search box in the top right of the page would have solved your problem.

Now any more insults and I shall lock the thread.

I know and that's why I think

I know and that's why I think that you should fight it instead of silencing people who do so. But well, maybe some like to help lazybones who don't give a damn about them or just laugh at how stupid they are.

don't visit the site
Thank you for your kind advice, I'll consider it.

Now any more insults and I shall lock the thread.
I feel that deletion is a better option.

Hold up fellahs. It really

Hold up fellahs. It really isn't anything to get so worked up over. Admittedly its very tame but we have pre-teens on these forums so in future keep it civil.

Despite the behaviour, I notice no one has welcomed you yet so Welcome to PortableApps.com mil823. Please be aware that many questions such as yours have been asked and answered in the past and you can find your answers quicker by uing the search box in the top left corner. Not a dig at you just something that is pointed out to all users normally within their first 5 posts as people tend to ask the same questions or request the same apps as others before them.

MODS - I recommend the deletion of this thread as the original inquiry has been answered and the info can also be found on other threads.

Hold On

First off, while searching first is always recommended, many users don't do it, especially new or inexperienced users.

Second, I apologize to m2 for the removal of your post. A moderator should *NOT* be outright deleting comments just because they say to search first, etc. Even if the post isn't that friendly.

Third, the proper way of handling a search first post is to politely remind users to be friendly to newer users, not to delete it or tell the user not to use the site. The only thing I've recommended in the past is that if you see a post that annoys you and you can only respond sarcasticly or angrily, perhaps it is better not to respond to that post.

And finally, mil823, welcome to PortableApps.com. I apologize for the initial welcome you received. Yes, this is a common question. And yes, PortableApps.com software, like *all* software run on any Windows platform leaves traces that allow an experienced administrator to be able to see that it was used. It does not leave behind any personal information, though. Anyone claming a piece of portable software as 'stealth' is either confused, lying, trying to sell you something or some combination. The only way to not leave anything at all behind is to boot into a portable linux distribution directly (Puppy Linux, Damn Small Linux, etc) but this isn't possible on all PCs (some don't boot from USB, some are set not to, most places don't let you to by policy), it's slow and the network admin can still tell what you did.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

Well

I stand by my comment. Unpopular as it may be if a users cannot be polite and civil then I do not think they belong in this community, and this is not the first time m2 has been hostile in my opinion.
