Application: QtWeb
Category: Internet
Description: QtWeb is compact, portable and secure web browser having some unique UI and privacy features. The project is based on Nokia's Qt framework (former Trolltech) and Apple's WebKit rendering engine (the same as being used in Apple Safari and Google Chrome).

Download QtWeb Portable 1.5.0.1 Development Test 1 [4.72MB download / 5.11MB installed]
(MD5: e57a97910d7db93b51031c9d15c8237e)

Release Notes:

Development Test 1 (2009-01-23): Initial release

Known Issues that are being worked on now:

Development Test 1

  • Settings being overwritten by launcher moving the default settings from App/DefaultData to Data/Settings - working to fix that bug
  • Downloads for some reason are not allowing user to pick where to download. (should be fixed in Development Test 2

Download setting

I noticed when downloading I didn't get a prompt to select where to drop the file. Instead it just droped it into $EXEDIR\Data\Settigns\file.bleh. Other than that the only error was the PA Format version that I pointed out earlier. Should be 1.1.0

Some Changes

I think Ryan is right and we should leave the bookmarks bar in its default location and with the default bookmarks intact. We'll add our PortableApps.com bookmark just after the QTWeb bookmark, though and keep our start.portableapps.com homepage.

Peacekeeper browser benchmark results

I ran QTWeb through the Peacekeeper browser benchmark at service.futuremark.com/peacekeeper, to compare it with the results I got for IE7 on my computer at work.

QTWeb performed INCREDIBLY well! It got a benchmark score over 2000 while IE7's was only around 400. It also beat out K-Meleon and Opera. (The security settings won't let me run Chrome or Firefox, even when portable).

QTWeb is now my default browser on my work computer.

Tonight I'll benchmark it on my computer at come and compare it to IE8, Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Opera and Lunascape.
