OCR, CAD Viewer,

would be nice to have an ocr software like GOCR

it would be helpful to have an DWG viewer, but as far as I know this is difficult to find open source and free

Could you use the search

Could you use the search function next time because there was a request for an OCR program not too long ago. Thanks!

Also its easy to find a open source OCR program. there are hundreds of them on sourceforge.

OCR

Ok
I expressed myself badly putting 2 requests in one! Sorry!

I know there are (not too many)open source OCR programs.
I know there was a request, personally I think even GOCR works fine, but it is not portable!
Could be usefull when moving arround.

DWG or CAD viewer

I expressed myself badly putting 2 requests in one! Sorry!

also a dwg or cad viewer could be usefull when moving without portable and only a USB stick in your pocket.

There are free ones but unfortunately I could not find a viewer open source.
So I am afraid this request will not have big success.

But would be usefull.

Sorry again, in the future I will be more careful!

Things have got to get better, they can't get worse, or can they?

Softi Free OCR

I've done a bit of searching myself on this today as I needed an OCR app and they don't have any installed at work. Unfortunately I couldn't find any good OSS ones for Windows (Hopefully I just didn't look hard enough and someone else props up a goodie) but I did find Free OCR which seems to work quite well.

I was wondering if anyone is up to making a launcher?

Heres the spec -

=====================================================

Name: Softi Free OCR

Current Version: 2.6

License: Freeware

Description: Softi Free OCR is a complete scan and OCR program including the Windows compiled Tesseract free ocr engine also known as a Tesseract GUI. It includes a Windows installer and It is very simple to use and supports multi-page tiff's, Adobe PDF and fax documents as well as most image types including compressed Tiff's which the Tesseract engine on its own cannot read .It now has Twain and WIA scanning.

The Tesseract OCR PDF engine is an open source product released by Google. It was developed at Hewlett Packard Laboratories between 1985 and 1995. In 1995 it was one of the top 3 performers at the OCR accuracy contest organized by University of Nevada in Las Vegas. The Tesseract engine source code is now maintained by Google and the project can be found here: http://code.google.com/p/tesseract-ocr/

FreeOCR for scanned PDF is freeware and you can do what you like with it including commercial use. The included Tesseract free OCR engine is distributed under the Apache V2.0 license.

Basically, Its a freeware app developed by a company called Softi, that uses an open source OCR engine which is maintained by Google.
