Hi Guys, Somehow I cannot download 1.5.1 I need menu only that link doesn't work. ******Main problem****** I am experiencing some troubles after installation of 1.5 menu. I worked with Some applications from my USB drive and that disconnected it. Then I found that all my hard drives have their normal icons but drive C has kinda notepad icon ????. Drive by itself works fine. "Windows cannot find c:\StartPortableApps.exe" woW!!!??? I never seen anything like that and I am using portables fro a long time. Any ideas? Basically I want my C-drive icon back without going into registry. Thank you in advance ( categories: )

autorun.inf
Delete the file C:\autorun.inf and then reboot. The Platform is meant to be installed on a portable device. It looks like you installed it to C:\. You can delete the C:\StartPortableApps.exe file and the C:\PortableApps and C:\Documents folders after verifying that you have nothing important in them you want to save to finish uninstalling the Platform from C:\

Hi John, Thank you very much
Hi John,
Thank you very much for reply
The content of my autorun.inf on drive c:
[autorun]
icon=vista.ico
=========
And nothing else. I am using Vistamized XP
There is no StartPortableApps.exe on any partition and logical drives I have
I am always installing Portables on my External USBs. They have permanent drive letters setup (Z & H)
And I have only 2 shortcuts for that with Targets:
Z:\StartPortableApps.exe
H:\StartPortableApps.exe
Hmmm… Are you still suggesting deleting autorun.inf, I mean is it at least safe?

Is there supposed to be duplicate lines in the ini file like this?:
[DisplayOptions]
LargeFonts=True
HideDesktopIcons=False
Language=English
StartPositionHorizontal=Right
StartPositionVertical=Bottom
AlphaBlendMain=255
[Localization]
DisableAppLanguageSwitching=true
FadeMenu=true
LargeFonts=True
Language=English
StartPositionHorizontal=Right
StartPositionVertical=Bottom
HideDesktopIcons=False
AlphaBlendMain=255
There are two instances of the above commands. This was an update from 1.5, to 1.51 I was curious if it updated or replaced the ini.

Hi Guys, Thanks for
Hi Guys,
Thanks for replying
gmbudwrench, the lines in autorun.inf not necessarily "supposed to be duplicate".
the file on my Z drive:
[Autorun]
Open=StartPortableApps.exe
Action=Start PortableApps.com
Icon=StartPortableApps.exe
Label=PortableApps.com
=======
Anyway, I removed that strange autorun from C: root as John suggested and after Reboot all got back to normal. I have Vista C: drive icon with space indication gauge back on my XP
How and when that got associated with non-existing c:\StartPortableApps.exe remains a mystery (???)
Thanks a lot

My post
is from the ini file inside X:\PortableApps\PortableApps.com\Data folder, not the one at the root. These control the menu options if I understand it correctly. I did an update from 1.5 to 1.5.1, "the bugfix" and when I was pilfering around in the data folder to see what changed, I noticed the duplicate listings in the ini file. I'm not a programmer or anything, I just posted this as reference, in case it causes a problem. Might help someone else out.

Hi, gmbudwrench, Some
Hi, gmbudwrench,
Some misunderstanding is going on here.
I missed that in your first post. I thought you made a typo with ini and inF
but now I see that you are talking PortableAppsMenu.ini file and I never suspected that one regarding my problem
it is Autorun.inf, which got into c: root where it does not belong and somehow there was association with "c:\StartPortableApps.exe" which never was placed there
Initial problem was solved by removing Autorun.inf from c:\
My regards
No problem
I'm not a programmer, I don't know an ini from an inf file. I was just browsing through the files and caught that little tidbit by accident. I had looked at it before and it only contained one instance, but after the update it contained two instances in the ini file and I was curious if that was supposed to happen. If it was... okay, if not maybe it was a bug that someone needed to fix.

Hi gmbudwrench, My comment
Hi gmbudwrench,
My comment about ini/inf was not an argument or criticism.
Not all has to be a programmers or experts. That is what Forum for: asking if we don't know and answering and trying to help if we can.
The only thing I would suggest that you create new request and post the question. I am sure you will get the answer.
Cheers!
