Sure you can, sounds like you just gotta play dirty with it. Your hard drive may have problems, or your operating system might be doing something stupid. Is it Vista?

BokunenjinWhenever I attempt to install Firefox v3.51 over Firefox v3.07 on my portable hard drive, I get an error message about not being able to overwrite files. What's going on?

Do this:

1. Go into your portable hard drive's root folder, then PortableApps.

2. Attempt to rename FirefoxPortable to anything else, doesn't matter what. If it doesn't let you, something's wrong with the hard drive or the operating system; we'd need more information to proceed.

3. Attempt to install Firefox Portable 3.5.1 to the default directory. If it doesn't let you... (same caveat as before).

4. Attempt to copy the Data folder from the old (renamed) folder to the new FirefoxPortable directory.

5. Attempt to delete FirefoxPortable.exe from the OLD folder. This alone will take it off the PortableApps.com Platform menu. If it doesn't let you (you know the drill).

At this point, your menu's straight, but you still have that buggy folder. Attempt to delete it. If it does, you're good, if not, well, it won't hurt anything. Shouldn't anyway.
