Stupid smileys.
Tim, you can breath again.
John It's nice to see some color back in our posts
Nice.
:)
I'm a big fan of the text-based ones, but the graphical ones... never really can tell what emoticon they represent unless you look it up or something. For the basic set, I prefer plaintext emoticons. Kick it old school, and you know what's being said.
:)
for happy,:(
for sad,;)
for wink, and:p
for just kidding, or a raspberry. There are more complicated ones, but I don't bother with them.(To use plaintext emoticons, wrap 'em in code tags.
I agree that sometimes the message gets lost in translation when using graphic smilies. One solution that would work well IMHO is to instead of the mouse over tooltip telling you what the smiley is, show the actual ascii representation, or show both the description and the ascii. I use Trillian IM client and this is how they do it. This is also handy to let other users know how to easily duplicate the smiley.
It amazes me that on the internet you can be anything you want, and yet so many people still choose to be idiots.
Would I be able to use them in other forums?
link to them (using [img]...) or save them?

That would depend on the forum and their restrictions.
I don't think they have a problem with external smileys...
I was thinking more about me taking them from here...

You can't. Images here are protected against hot-linking so other sites can't leech.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
really
doesn't seem to work (in the preview of a message at least)--> http://sites.google.com/site/spg20scottsweb/home/portableapps-smiley
Anyway...If you don't want me to, I wont

It's already in your browser's cache, so it shows up. Anybody accessing it embedded in a page on another site will get an access denied error.

I think I get that...(although ff portable has 0MB cache limit so I don't get that...)
Anyway, since you've gone to that trouble I wont use them except here

That's disk vs RAM cache. The setting in options sets the disk cache to 0. Disk cache is really only important between sessions or if you leave Firefox running a long time and visit lots of pages. Firefox still uses available RAM while it's running for cache, though.

I see now, thanks for the clarification

Best thing to do would be to get a Photobucket account (well, you could use any free image host) and the Clippings extension for Firefox. Upload an emoticon from any site (download to your desktop first) and copy the direct URL to the image. Save this in Clippings under the name of the text it replaces. Post the image URL and then wrap it with whatever code that forum uses. BBCode is a useful extension for this.
;-)
I know what you mean, I just liked the jaw drop one so was wondering...
Didn't know about clippings though, I'll look into it, thanks
(already got bbcode ;))
-Scott-
EDIT:Clippings...
Creates a folder in documents called .clipbak with the clipping inside...not good. I'll stick with treepad...

I'm so happy!

Too many bridges you can burn
Too many tables you can't turn
Don't wanna live my life in the real world

:) ;) :( :D }:) :P :O :? 8) :jawdrop:
Some are more cute textually, such as the first four, but for example the evil one looks like a happy guy with big eyebrows. Anyway:THEY ARE CUTE.
P.D.:Love the tongue, reminds me of a real "evil" guy such as a child having fun when his/her father/mother tells him/her to stop playing
Beware John, I got nuts with them onlky in this post :P. I just love this one
...
I feel dumb but asking this but...
How are people making them textual?
Entities?
Do you mean this?
