This doesn't work, and BB's down so I can't get the code. Will fix later.

Description: gedit is a UTF-8 compatible text editor for the GNOME desktop environment. Designed as a general purpose text editor, gedit emphasizes simplicity and ease of use. It includes tools for editing source code and structured text such as markup languages.

It is designed to have a clean, simple graphical user interface according to the philosophy of the GNOME project, and it is the default text editor for GNOME.

GEdit is great! Thanks so much for working on this.
I just installed it on my computer, and it leaves some folders behind:
C:\Documents and Settings\User\.gconf
C:\Documents and Settings\User\.gconfd
C:\Documents and Settings\.recently-used.xbel
C:\Documents and Settings\User\Application Data\gedit

I don't know about registry...
