It is open source... also at the original poster please search the forums as this has been mentioned many times.

I agree with this except...

A lot of people aren't using the standard LL (Linden Labs, creators of Second Life) viewer anymore and instead are using the GreenLife Emerald Viewer, with more and more switching every day. I would much rather see a portable version of Emerald Viewer then LL's default viewer as it is much better (though still personal opinion, most SL users would back me up on that).

GreenLife Emerald main website: http://modularsystems.sl/

True they have a forum there with a "Feature Requests" section but personally after trying to ask this same question on there and given nothing but short rude answers I'm not going back. The program is opensource. I just don't have the knowledge to "open" it. All I know is the only thing you have to do is change the saved settings location from "C:\Users\(YourUserName)\AppData\Roaming\SecondLife" to something on the flash drive. Everything else like the save location for chat logs and cache can be changed by the settings menu in the viewer. So basically... if someone can figure that out that'd be great. I did read this https://portableapps.com/node/15340 and will be testing out his program in a few but no where does it say it *saves* the settings to the flash drive, it sounds like he took that same old batch script that's been floating around the internet for years now and turned it into a .exe, and if true all it does is *delete* the files the viewer makes when it closes. Thus losing your settings every time.

Loses your settings yeah. and

Loses your settings yeah. and that's what I wanted, because the purpose is for running it on public computers and it's not going to actually run off the flash drive but sits on the hard drive

Second Life standard viewer

Second Life standard viewer already works portably. Sure, it's huge, but the whole thing still works on a flash drive. The only thing wrong is that you have to make sure the computer you're on can handle SL since there's so much network and graphic strain. But other than that, there's no problem running it on a stick, and it's just under 1GB, so most sticks can handle it.
