Updating GoogleChromePortable

This is probably bring up an old topic, but I think it has some merit now that GoogleChrome is official.

Chrome is a quick browser, but still includes tracking features. There have been many forks (i.e., Iron) that have modified chromium to meet different needs. When GoogleChromePortable is installed, it completely removes the /GoogleChromePortable/App/ folder taking with it any fork that was installed there forcing the user to install it again.

I think this should be optional, the user should be able to disable completely removing the App folder if there is a fork installed. Or better yet why not give the user the option of downloading and installing one of the many available forks?

I just found this annoying when updating GoogleChromePortable to the latest revision with Iron installed. Any thoughts on this?

SRWare

I have a ping into SRWare to do a PAF version, but they haven't responded.

Universally, you can't go mucking about in the App directory. It's for the app, not for the user. Stuff in there will be deleted or kept at the mercy of the app.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

I'm crossing my fingers. SRWare Iron has ad-blocking :).
Say, does anybody know when extensions are coming out?

You can always use a

You can always use a extraction tool like 7zip to extract only the launcher (and help and source and appinfo or whatever bits you want) from the GoogleChromePortable*.paf.exe file to bypass the installer entirely, if you want.

Signature automatically removed for being too awesome.
