Portable Firefox with Portable java?

defacto - November 11, 2009 - 9:58am

Hello,

I'd like to know if it (or will be made) possible to make Portable Firefox use Portable Java to run an applet. This would be extremely useful... but currently seems impossible.

Hello

and welcome to portable apps.

We recommend that people try searching before posting questions like this, as they have usually been asked before.

In this case, it has been covered many times, and, sadly, the problem is that the Firefox Plugin (which is a closed source Sun product) only locates Java using the registry, and cannot do so from a parameter, config file, or environment variable.

Until Sun change this, there is no way that we can safely teach Firefox Portable where Java Portable is, without forcing the entire PC to use the Java Portable installation for the duration that FFP is running, which is highly inadvisable.
