To turn a regular application into portableapps format. all you have to do is create a new text document in its root folder and include the following:
[Format]
Type=PortableApps.comFormat
Version=version number
[Details]
Name=(Title of the app)
Publisher=(Whoever made this app)
Homepage=whereyoufoundtheapp.com
Category=Graphics & Pictures, programming, office, etc.
Description=Here is where you write the description for the app.
[Version] (note that these numbers must be above any of the other apps'. good idea to start at 5).
PackageVersion=5.2.7.0
DisplayVersion=(The above simplified)5.2.7
(@John: Let's turn this into a wiki page.)
I made a Current Projects folder, which is quite useful when you have quite a few things going and your drive is HUGE (I want to install Everything Portable, but I'm not sure I want to undertake reformatting the drive to NTFS).
I also use Q10, makes a great writing tool, with a PortableApps version, but it seems that the developer has abandoned it (any good alternatives?).
I also have a resources folder for commonly used stuff (like templates--OO.o is incredibly slow, so I'm forced to use MS Office [which I have to admit, the Ribbon is great]).
I also use the AutoMemScan utility, which is very useful for the lazy, but could be a bit better integrated (nobody cares about my mod).
I feel like I just wasted 15 minutes of my life, but it was a great 15 minutes :P.

OliverKthere's gonna be a community section of the site with a wiki.
Section with wiki. With a wiki. Yeah, you brought it up a couple of weeks ago. I talked to him probably a week ago and asked him about wikifying something.

I thought that the appinfo.ini goes under App\Appinfo.
But yeah, that's a great tip. Useful for folders.

I don't understand what that is supposed to do.
This is a config file that the menu reads. This thing is meant to launch executables, but can launch anything that you can assign a file/folder to.

Please note that, while this does add the program to the menu, it does NOT make it portable. It may still leave settings and such behind.

IMO, there's a difference between community sections and wikis.
