Folder Colors

I would like to know if there is a small program available that will allow changing folder colors in Vista. I have searched the forum and didn't find (or possible I missed) anything like I am looking for. In the applications page, I did see IcoFXportable, but didn't see anything in the description that had what I needed. If I am wrong, please let me know.
Some background: The company I work for is currently running windows vista enterprise. They have banned the use of flash and usb drives, but still allow floppy drives. I manage over 500 folders comprising of several different groups and subgroups. At Sourceforge.net, someone has developed iColorFolder 1.4.2 for WinXP, but has not done anything for Vista. I believe I can run a portable program from floppy.
If a program for vista cannot be developed, is there a place that I can get colored folders that I can copy to vista and use?
Thank you for any assistance anyone can provide.

You don't even need any

You don't even need any program to change folder colors.

The program iColorFolder at SF.net is just modifying the desktop.ini files inside folders.

On Windows Explorer, press ALT. A menu should open up.
Go to Tools --> Folder Options --> View

Make sure "Hide Operating System Files" is UNCHECKED.

Take a look a the how we modified our PortableApps.com Folders.
Compare, and do the same for any folder of your choice Smile

By the way, iColorFolder does indeed work on Vista and Windows 7. If you want proof, I can post a screen shot Blum

RE:Folder Colors

Thanks for your reply. I did get to the step to uncheck OS files, but then kinda lost you at the next step. Where should I look? (Sorry, but I kinda work best with very detailed instructions at the beginning).

BTW, have you considered making a YouTube video on how to do this?

Thank you...

Vague indeed

Yeah, those instructions were a little vague.

Also, enabling hidden and system files in view does not always show DESKTOP.INI. Depends on the configuration I guess, but this terminal wouldn't do it. So I went into a folder (Documents) with Notepad++ and told it to open DESKTOP.INI (I typed it in and hit enter).

Here's the text of that DESKTOP.INI:

[.ShellClassInfo]
InfoTip=Contains letters, reports, and other documents and files.
IconFile=..\PortableApps\PortableApps.com\App\DefaultData\FolderIcons\documents.ico
IconIndex=0

So as you can see, you just direct it to the .ico file you want. Quickest way would be to put your icons in the folder so you can say "IconFile=myfolder.ico" or whatever. ..\ means go up a level and go from there.

IconIndex=0 means to use the first icon in a .ico file with more than one icon. If you are using a multi-icon file, you will have to know the ID number of the one you want. An icon editor *should* be able to tell you this.
