Firefox portable updates automatically through the web even when I told it not to

I had set my previous version of portable FF (whichever that was before the 3.5.6 update) NOT to update automatically but it automatically updated this morning.

That bothers me because of this message from this web page:

https://portableapps.com/forums/support/firefox_portable/faq

"The Mozilla Software Updater no longer correctly updates secondary, standalone and portable versions of Firefox, Thunderbird, etc."

But is that still true? Should I just save my plugins and data but wipe out the current version that sits here ASAP? Or is it fixed and is it smooth sailing from here on using the convenient (if automatic now) software updater?

Please let me know. Thanks!

Fine

The FAQ says you shouldn't auto-update? Doesn't when I look at it Wink

I checked with John, he said it was all good now, so I fixed the FAQ page.

That would be cool!
I wonder why he didnt announce it bigger...

Cause the release page still says it has this issue.

EDIT: According to the bugtracker it will be fixed in Firefox 3.6 *yay*

Yes...

After reading this thread, and the link above, I allowed FF to update to 3.5.6 itself, and it works fine 8)

Leaving things behind

The issue was never with it not working. It's always worked. It just left uninstallation information in the registry. Check the "Add & Remove Programs" or "Programs and Features" things to see if there's an entry there for Firefox 3.5.6 - there shouldn't be, but before 3.5 or so there would have been.

Oh...

Nothing in there...

Although if there was anything, I wouldn't be sure whether it was this or from before, because I accidentally set the portable edition as default...which messed it up somewhat...

Now, all I have done is change some file associations, so that html files are opened by FF...

I think there may be stuff left though, either from my mistake above, or from the update (don't know...) the options for http protocol are IE and standard FF...

Oh well...
