portable application that can write-protect a USB Flash Disk?

Like a 3½-inch floppy disk and other USB Flash Disks, they have write-protect capabilities, for the USB, it's a write-protect switch, unfortunately, my USB doesn't have a write-protect switch...

Is there a portable application that can write-protect a USB Flash Disk?

Because when I'm viewing a video or viewing a document, on my USB, I would like it, if my USB is write-protected, so it is protected from viruses and malware that tend to add themselves on USBs...

yes the are seldom

nowadays those stick with the little switch for WP.

I am keeping those very old once for some special purposes like some anvirus apps etc, thought my once are only 128mb in size. But today they are very rare.

To do it on software, well this could be difficult, or at least it might not be of too much quality. One could set all files as read only with some single script or so, and reset it after with similar, but this is not a real write protect.

Those switches did operate directly as input to the controller and did disable the write ops there directly, no way to bypass it from the software. I think what ever you try do via software it will be not very good protection. If there is a way of giving a command to the controller to stop any writes for the moment, well could, but then again it would be depending on the controller, like many of those hardware encryption tools are.

well let see if any of the hardware experts have other ideas. I am personally somehow skeptical that universal software solution can be done.
