Download Issues from SourceForge.net (Jan 21, 2010)

We've had some reports of download issues from some users in Puerto Rico and Australia in the last day. Specifically, we've had reports of redirect loops where the file will just keep redirecting back and forth until Firefox gives up. This first came up in the Firefox Portable 3.6 comments.

If you are experiencing this issue, please post a note with your location, the SourceForge mirror that you're seeing this issue with, the app(s) you tried to download, etc. Also, try downloading them directly from our SourceForge files list page (WARNING: long, slow page to load).

We'll get this fixed as soon as possible.

Thanks,
John

I am having the redirect problem. Location: PR

I tried the sourceforge file list and neither is working.

The SF mirror is set to automatic, but also tried the other mirrors with no success.

Download problems

I was having the same problem last night with a non-portable apps download hosted on Sourceforge. I live in the south-eastern US. I tried several times without success. Finally, when I clicked the direct link, it worked.

I just downloaded Thunderbird 3.0.1 from SF at 6:40 am EST.

Just more info for you.

As of today I still have the same problem. The redirect appears whenever I am trying the direct list or the links from portableapps.com. All other sourceforge apps that I try download well.

The page is not allowing me to select a mirror, when I click the link to download the redirect error appears immediately. If I use a proxy withing the US the portableapps download without problem.

I am having the same problem.

I am located in SA.

After clicking the download link I get the redirect error. If I quickly press the stop button and clikc on "select different mirror" and choose one from California sometimes the download works.

And John thanks for such a great customer support and quick response to this issue.

Incomplete

That's a different error, so a bit offtopic here. That means your download either didn't complete (usually due to a download manager) or was infected with a virus after it downloaded. I can't see sunet as a mirror in my list, so I can't check to ensure the file is correct.

Tried it today and the downloads are working again! Thanks John for contacting SF. Great service.

On a side note:

Due to my frustration of being unable to download Portableapps, I decided to try out the competition. In summary Portableapps.com is leaps and bounds ahead of its competitors. Other portable collections I tried are a complete mess and hard to use. Nothing compares to PA. Keep up the great work John!

The only programs I wish PA had are the Piriform portable programs (ccleaner, Recuva, Defraggler) and irfanview.

Good to Hear

Good to hear downloads are working. We were holding a release until it was sorted.

Irfanview is coming (we already have permission). We have a test version of CCleaner we're working with Piriform on, and we plan on doing the others afterwards. Unlike the others, we do it legally.

Download repeatedly aborted

I've been having this issue with SourceForge for several months now:

The download quits at a random place, and Firefox 3.5.7 reports "All files have finished downloading". Except they haven't. No download manager other than the built-in one.

Just now I tried to download the Light Suite 1.6 at 47.2 MB.
1st try: quit after 6.3 MB
2nd try: quit after 11.5 MB
3rd try: quit after 13.3 MB
4th try: quit after 5.8 MB
5th try: success.

And no resume, of course.

Why can't I use FTP for downloading? It is the obvious choice, it's called "File Transfer Protocol" for a reason.

Bad COnnection

Sounds like a bad connection on your end. Or a bad mirror on the other end. Did you try a different mirror? I just tried iweb, softlayer and cdnetworks and all worked properly.

Hardly anybody supports FTP anymore as HTTP is generally faster. SourceForge, our provider, doesn't. If you know of someone else willing to give us $18,000 of bandwidth a month that supports FTP, I'd be willing to check it out, though. Smile

connection - corrupt download

i got the same issue as Bjalf.
But here the download stops at under 1 MB saying it has finished.
(I'm from Germany)

Giving me NSIS errors and so on.
Definitively something wrong with the download script/server of SF.

Thanks for PA
