Description: StarBurn is a FREE powerful tool for grabbing, burning and mastering CD, DVD, Blu-Ray and HD-DVD media. StarBurn supports all types of optical storage media (including CD-R/RW, DVD-R/RW, DVD+R/RW, BD-R/RE, HD-DVD-R/RW and DVD-RAM) as well as a wide variety of burning hardware. Intriguing

I'm lurking in their forums for information regarding the portable version they offer, which comes in the form of a setup.exe type file. Here's the quick links:

Stuff omitted from portable
Portable version creates folders in My Documents
Deflection as to the viability of portability
starburn.ocx needs to be registered on every machine...

Also, there are multiple reports that the app installs adware. A sticky says you can omit the adware during install, but this topic implies it blasts ads at the user when it's not running...

What's gonna have to happen IF they decide to do this app...

1. The adware/spyware's gonna have to go. No way John's gonna let a second-rate app be the first PortableApp to come bundled with badware.

2. The producer of the app is gonna have to bundle in .paf.exe (PortableApps.com Format) for any inclusion here. That isn't hard to do but if his launcher calls his app and either of them call badware, that isn't gonna fly with most folks.

3. If the app has to register a .ocx on every machine it runs on, it'll need admin access (at least once -- same requirement as TrueCrypt and DAEMON Tools).

4. If the app's creating folders in the user's documents folder, the launcher needs to put them in the \data folder, and then replace them when it launches again.

Optimistically I give it a 2/10 of happening for the .ocx issue and the badware alone, but maybe if the author of this app is cooperative, something could happen. But that's just my opinion and I don't speak for PortableApps.com in any capacity, official or otherwise. I just think I have a good idea of what this project does and doesn't want in its apps.
