Hi there, I have a lot of apps in my menu, about 95, many of them util programs I just dumped in there. The new progress bar on the menu is nice, but for me it's still slow even on a fast computer. So I was wondering if you could add an option to disable the auto scanning for programs unless someone installs a new program or clicks on the refresh button.
Hopefully there's an option for this already that I can add to the PortableAppsMenu.ini file?
I don't know how you do it already, but you may want to speed up the menu program a little by checking the date on the apps folder and if it hasnt' changed then don't bother scanning it.

Since the platform doesn't cache the application list. In other words, if it doesn't scan, you'll get an empty menu.
I can tell you however, that it is literally orders of magnitude faster if it has correct appinfo.ini entries for the applications in the folders, so you may find it worth creating the appropriate appinfo.ini files for the applications that aren't in PortableApps.com format.
Then it would be nice if the portableapps menu program had an option to auto generate the appinfo.ini file if it's not there so that it will load faster in the future.
in my opinion that would cause even more slower response times because every new app you add that didn't have the appinfo.ini would have to be generated by the platform, so I personally believe the current options that the platform already has is the better option.

But it would only have to generate the ini file once when you add the new app folder, and then it should run faster every time after that.
To be honest, I'm surprised there isn't a cache already.
