Application: Game Booster
Category: Utilities
Description: Game Booster is a small program that you can use to optimize your PC for optimal performance (like if you want to play a game and its running slow, just 'switch to gaming mode' to get the most out of your computer). It works by temporarily stopping system processes and then, after you play that really good game, or run that really big program, you go 'back to normal mode'. Its really simple and yet so useful.

Freeware: This software is FREEWARE and is distributed with permission from IObit.

"without any modifications"

I think you should seek clarification of "without any modifications" - does he mean the installer or program in a different installer?

I am a Christian and a developer and moderator here.

“A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.” – Proverbs 15:1

Explained

Pyromaniac has always (in previous instances) explained what portable software is and how it is packaged, so if that statement was made to him in the context of those email discussions, it would be a yes. Perhaps he can provide some more context or double-check with the publisher just to be sure we're in the clear.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

eh... I said this:

Hi!

I\'m a developer at PortableApps.com and a little while ago, I found out about Game Booster. I tried it and I found it very effective. I decided to write a launcher for the portable version. I am aware that this is freeware, so I decided to make an online installer which would download and extract game booster into a specified folder. I was disappointed, though, to find that the installer used to destribute Game Booster is compressed with a method unfamiliar to the 7zip plugin used to extract the app from the installer. I was wondering if you could, perhaps upload an ZIP file containing the same binaries as the installer so that the the installer for the portable version can download and properly extract the files. Or, if you want, perhaps you could give me permission to redistribute Game Booster. That would be awesome (although I\'m not expecting you to).

If you want to see an example of an online installer, check out Google Chrome Portable: http://portableapps.com/apps/internet/google_chrome_portable

Thats what I had been trying to do with Game Booster...

Thanks for your time!

and before you say anything... I was gonna say 'amateur' because none of my apps are official, but I didn't think that would help my cause... and I aint much of the proffessional type so yeah...

new 2.0 beta released!!!

you can install it along side your existing copy of Game Booster Portable, too. This version has a sexier look to it, and has new features I'm sure ya'll will enjoy.

Updated to 2.1

I also rewrote the launcher in PAL.

Doesn't work... It runs, but

Doesn't work... It runs, but i don't see any services to disable, therefor this is useless...

Screenshot?

That has personally never happened to me. Perhaps its a bug with the program. A screenshot would help. Have you tried the 1.x version? I personally think it does a better job of giving you info on what its doing.

If the above doesn't stop anything either, than maybe your computer is already so fast that Game Booster can't make it go faster Laughing out loud

Screenshot wouldn't help...

Screenshot wouldn't help... Whole application is working, it's just not showing any services to stop... And btw. 1.x version is working, but i think (i don't know for sure) that newer version has more metods to speed up pc ;x

I have the same problem here,

I have the same problem here, too Sad no services to stop

Ohh yea and i have Windows 7

Ohh yea and i have Windows 7 64bit too, maybe that's the problem...

Yep

Yep, Win 7 x64 here too.. will test on Vista later

hmm

has it worked in Win Vista 32? How about the other version I mentioned above?

Some fixes

Pyromaniac, I've made some fixes on Game Booster:

  • I've set RunAsAdmin to "try", because for some reason Game Booster doesn't start on Windows 7 (x64) if I don't run it as administrator.
  • The services issue reported by mooop12 and kai.inouye is caused because when you install a local copy of Game Booster, it copy an INI file with services list to the App Data folder, and this file isn't included on the portable version, resulting in no services available to be stopped (but the portable version, for some reason, will work fine if you have a local installation of Game Booster). To fix, you need to include a copy of these INIs on DefaultData folder. Then, on the first run this file will be copied to App Data folder and will work fine.
  • The IObit folder remain on the App Data folder after closing Game Booster Portable. The reason is because the launcher only remove this folder if they are empty, but this folder won't be removed because we have an empty subfolder "Game Booster" inside them. To fix this, in DirectoriesCleanupIfEmpty section we have to first add "IObit\Game Booster" and "IObit" after them.
  • We could use high resolution icons of the Game Booster because these icons may be used on the next releases of PortableApps. I've included them on the application (AppIcon.ico, AppIcon_16.png, AppIcon_32.png and AppIcon_128.png)
  • In the help file we have many broken links. We could fix these links and redirect Game Booster Portable homepage to this forum thread.

I've fixed these things in this package: already updated, download Dev Test 2

See release notes for changes.

Jhonn: Please remove your download link.

Language Issue

If you start Game Booster Portable Dev Test 2 and change language, when you open the program again the language will always be set to English again, same if you launch from PAM.

detects PAM language

I told it to set the language according to PAM's language (so if you set PAM to say, Croatian, it will set Game Booster's language to Croatian)

Thanks

I've changed language of PAM an now all work right, thanks for quick reply.

Updated to 3.0

Improved language switching for chinese simplified/traditional via PAM.

Updated to 3.1

Sorry it came a bit late; I didn't realize I hadn't updated to 3.1 until recently.

IOBit Game Booster update to v3.2

I have a question for Pyromaniac (or anyone else who would know). If I installed the regular version o Game Booster v3.2, could I just copy the files located in C:\Program Files\IObit\Game Booster 3, into PortableApps\GameBoosterPortable\App\Game Booster, or is there something else I need to do. I use this a lot, so I don't want to blow it up.

If that's it, I'm willing to use the PortableApps Installer and create an updated installer (if you want). No big deal either way. Just thought I'd offer. Peace, and thanks for the great portable app. Smiling

In some cases

In this case, yes you could have, since there were no major changes in this release. Sometimes though (I'd say about 5%-30%, depending on the app), apps can change a lot from one version to the next. For example, Game Booster 1.x was completely different from 2.x and those two were completely different from 3.x. The launcher probably would have launched the app, if gamebooster.exe's name didn't change, but you might get some portability issues or even problems with the actual app if the settings files for the new version were different from the old one.

Updated to 3.2

Yapady yap yap

Re: Updated to 3.2

Holy cow! Jawdropping! I didn't mean for you to actually update it, but thank you. Thanks also for the explanation. I have tried manually updating portable apps before with mixed results (one attempt lost me about 18 months worth of emails Sad ). Since then, I don't modify/update manually anything without asking. Peace, my friend...

Always

I like to keep all my supported portable apps as up-to-date as possible, as it's almost always best to use the latest software.

Ok

I'll try to update this as soon as possible. I have a horrible wifi connection right now, so it may take a few days.

Question for ya

I updated your launcher to 3.4.0 for my own personal use. Would you like me to post a link to that? It's still your launcher, I just copied over the core app with the new one from a local install. Either way is cool. Just thought I throw the offer out there. Peace...

Freeware

Game Booster is freeware, and I had to get permission from the devs to redistribute their app. If you can get it, too, I suppose you can.

No sense

to me asking their permission just for this one version, as this is the last freeware version. You are correct to remind me that permission is needed for freeware. I tend to get a little forgetful when overly tired. Sorry about that.

Joshwiker14 will have to wait for yours to be posted. Peace..

Updated to 3.4.0

As mentioned previously, this will be the final free release of Game Booster (and thus Game Booster Portable).
