Already in use message

My ffp's (2 portable ver.) keep giving me that "already in use" message. It doesn't matter which ff ver. it is. I open one up, do my thing, close it down and do something else on the pc. Later on I try to open the same one and i get "already in use". It seems like the only way to get it to work again is to restart the pc. Does anyone have any idea why this is happening & how I can fix it, if I can fix it.

Thanks.

P.S. Yes I do have a real ver. installed on the pc, but the whole family uses that one. And besides they don't seem to like any of the add-ons I use. (32 add-ons, & yes I really do use them all.) That's kind of why I have 2 FFp's.

Is Firefox shutting down properly? (extensions etc)

Is Firefox shutting down properly? (extensions etc)

I'd check with something like Process Explorer (portable test version --> https://portableapps.com/node/22549), to see which processes are started with/by Firefox/ Firefox Portable (the default view should show the processes in a tree like format which should be a big help).

looking on my computer now with Process Explorer, with Firefox Portable running I see:

- FirefoxPortable.exe
- firefox.exe
plugin-container.exe
aofm.exe

Then close down FF / FF portable and watch in Process Explorer as things close down. If something FF / FF portable started (an extension maybe?) isn't closing down that might be the problem? If you have some 'leftovers', you could try killing those processes (right click>kill) one at a time and try to launch FF Portable again.

*if* the problem is a process (extension) that isn't closing down that should help work out which one it is.

I hope that helps. Good luck.

Already in use message

used the Process Explorer & I saw both normal & with problem:
- FirefoxPortable.exe
- firefox.exe
plugin-container.exe

closed down FF / FF portable and watch in Process Explorer as things close down. Everything closed both ways. Yet I can still use other ffp or real installed one. If I want to use the one that got the problem (remember, I have 2 ffp's & both get the problem.) again, I have to restart the pc.
