Backed up my old 1.6 portableapps.com to install 10.0 update, removed flash, shut down, rebooted, put the flash back in, clicked the auto run file view, clicked on the portable apps icon, the platform opened, each listed Icon was only characters and numbers, in sequence. Example: lblAppButton01, lblAppButton02, etc.Etc. Can anyone tell me where I went wrong?

Try reinstalling the platform right over your previous copy (don't worry about backing it up again) and see if this fixes your issue.

Not completely computer savvy; Exactly how do I go about doing that?
Have a copy of each version, all backed up in different folders on the same drive. How do I update each backup to 10.0?
Did you have a personal picture in the previous version? There is a bug in some installs that causes it to break the current release. We're looking to address it shortly.
Until then, browse to your X:\PortableApps\PortableApps.com\Data folder and delete PersonalPicture.png.
If that doesn't fix the issue, you could try resetting your settings. You'll lose things like favorites and such. Just browse to X:\PortableApps\PortableApps.com\Data and delete everything in the folder. Sometimes upgrading from one of the modified PortableApps.com Menus can cause issues with settings. This fixes that as well as any corrupted settings files.
If that still fails, be sure to check the drive for errors in Windows as that can also cause issues.
