Application: MKVToolNix
Category: Music & Video
Description: From the publisher's website:
MKVToolNix is a set of tools to create, alter and inspect Matroska files under Linux, other Unices and Windows. They do for Matroska what the OGMtools do for the OGM format and then some.

Your "here" link doesn't link anywhere. Looking at the source, it looks like you forgot to add the href and link.
Foiled by a missing double quote. It should be fixed now.
It's leaving this behind (win7):
%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming\mkvtoolnix
%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming\Roaming
change
[DirectoriesMove]
-=%APPDATA%\Roaming\mkvtoolnix
to
[DirectoriesMove]
-=%APPDATA%\mkvtoolnix
so it cleans it up (in win7)
everything else clean
thanks for keeping this one alive
Thanks for the change suggestion. I'll fix it and rebuild soon.
Hi
Thanks for picking up this project.
Is it possible to include mkvextractGUI in this package?
It has to be in the same directory anyway so maybe it's a nice addition to this project.
Or is it better to make a new portableapps package for this and install in the same directory?
Ed
I'm not going to be including it because that would require a separate launcher in the package. Though I'm sure if you want to create your own with MKVExtractGUI as the launcher, there will be people who will test it out.
Thanks for your reply.
It is possible to have 2 or more launchers in 1 package, you just can't build them at once.
Actually i made a attempt to include it all in one package, but it's based on the mkvtoolnix build you took over. I updated it to version 6.0
You can find my version here: http://www.riethorst.net/MKVToolnixPortable_6.0_Multilingual_MKVExtractG...
Ed
The reason that I'm staying away from the multiple launchers is because I've read in other posts that they prefer if there's only one launcher in a package. Things like LibreOffice are exceptions to this rule. I'm glad you got it working, and I'm sure that if you put a beta testing page up, people will use it. It would be even cooler if you managed to make it a plugin installer for MKVToolNix.
I'm not sure a plugin installer will work.
It's intended to install some files but not a launcher and launcher.ini as far as i know
Hi
I was thinking about the plugin installer idea.
But i understand that it would be best in that case to just include the necessary files and no launcher? That way would work but you have to launch the app by hand and it doesn't show up in the menu.
I think that a complete separate installer is overkill, because it would install mkvtoolnix again which is already on the usb stick
Personally is see no problem why there wouldn't be multiple launchers in one application.
Maybe somebody can explain too me why this is not preferable?
Here's the thread where JTH comments on multiple launchers: Multiple Launchers with PAL. Maybe that will help a little.
Thanks for the info darksabre76.
I have read the tread and the only conclusion i get out of it is that multiple launchers is not supported and there is no solution yet. It can be done (i did the same tactic as pyromenia) but it is not foolproof.
The only possibility that i can think of is, like you said, to build a separate installer for mkvextractGui despite that it will install mkvtoolnix twice.
I will think about that
guess it's better to put it in the utilities folder. I mean it does'nt play something. And thanks btw!
There are a few applications like CD burners (like cdrtfe and audio and video editors (like Audacity and DVDStyler) that are in that section so it made sense to me to have it there. But then again, that's why you can change sections if you want.
Hi
I finally made my version of MKVExtractGui-2.
It's a single installer with only the necessary files from MKVToolnix.
This is my first officially listed portable app on this site.
Try it out if you will.
https://portableapps.com/node/36493
I'll gladly help test it. If I run into anything, I'll post it over on the application page. Congratulations on your first officially listed app, by the way.
Hi
I tried your application and it works great, compliments on that.
I tested with regshot and found no things that are left behind.
there is a new version of mkvtoolnix V6.1.0
Are you updating the app?
Thanks for the update, I'll have the build up soon.
Version 6.2.0 is out..
Will you update your app?
I'll update it as soon as I get a chance. May be a couple of days, depending on how much of my grad work I get done.
Updated to 6.2.0 ("Promised Land") Dev Test 1. See the release notes for details.
Updated to 6.3.0 ("You can't stop me!") Dev Test 1. See release notes for details.
Updated to 6.4.1 ("Omega Point") Dev Test 1. See release notes for details.
Good work on this, darksaber76. I haven't had any issues with any of the dev tests I've used. With matroska being the excellent open source container that it is, MKVToolNix would be great as an official app and compliment the self updating software selection available here very nicely.
Updated to 6.5.0 ("Isn't she lovely") Dev Test 1. See release notes for details.
Updated to 6.6.0 ("The Edge Of The In Between") Dev Test 1. See release notes for details.
To all users of MKVToolNix: The most recent update to the application introduces a 64-bit variant of the program alongside the normal 32-bit version. Would anyone realistically want this included in the package? Or would you prefer me keeping it just 32-bit? I would not like to create a separate package for 64-bit if it's not included so those are the only two options. Once I hear feedback (or I make up my mind), 6.7.0 will be released. Thanks in advance!
It's only worth it if the performance boost is a bigger positive than the size increase is a negative. It's also worth determining if some bits are duplicated between the two and move them back and forth (help files, localizations, etc are typical candidates) to save space.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
I don't think that the 64bit version will benefit from performance?
It can use more ram memory but i doubt it will speed up this program, so no 32bit is fine by me.
Here is a quote from the mkvtoolnix author about 64bit versions:
I see two very good arguments against adding the 64-bit variant to the package and I agree with those completely. I'll still continue with just the 32-bit variant unless the 64-bit version offers any significant performance increases in the future. Thank you John and ed666 for your inputs.
Updated to 6.7.0 ("Back to the Ground") Dev Test 1. See release notes for details.
Updated to 6.8.0 ("Theme for Great Cities") Dev Test 1. See release notes for details.
Hi
Version 6.9.1 has been released by the author.
Thank you for the update. I've been very busy with end-of-semester work and a Master's project, so my update time will probably lag on this (and everything else I package).
Updated to 7.1.0 ("Good Love") Dev Test 1. See release notes for details. (Also, sorry for the lack of updates on this app. They should be more consistent moving forward.)
From: https://mkvtoolnix.download/ : 9 Nov 2015: Released v8.6.1.
I know you're busy with real life, so no pressure. Life trumps internet.
Updated to 9.6.0 Dev Test 1. See release notes for details.
Just tested it merging subtitles in some series files. It's working fine!
It looks like the author's been releasing monthly updates, and is currently up to 13.0 as of June 25.
I suspect a new update will drop in the next few days, based on the release pattern.
The app has been updated to stable version 20.0. Can you please update the app. I'm really waiting to see the updated app in stable version?
I took over this project. A new Dev Test is available ->here.
