ManagePC

Program: ManagePC

Description: ManagePC is a tool for remotely administering & controlling Windows machines in an Active Directory environment. It retrieves data on the hardware and software, lets you control currently running services, process and installed software and much more.

Review: There's a lot that goes on in Windows behind the scenes. If you need an easy way to view processes, programs, and a lot of other information, try ManagePC. This simple program makes it easy to view details about nearly everything that's going on on your PC in one well-organized place. We think it's a great choice both for system administrators and for others who need to know the details of what's happening on their own or other people's computers.

ManagePC has an intuitive interface, with a series of buttons across the top giving access to several built-in Windows utilities, including the Microsoft Management Console, Registry Editor, Remote Desktop, and Remote Assistance. The program provides system information in a series of tabbed menus, including Summary (information about hardware and operating system), Services, Processes, Windows Updates, Environment, Software, Group Membership, Codecs, Disks, and Startup Items. While it's certainly possible to access all of this information in other ways within Windows, ManagePC does a great job of organizing it and presenting it in an easy-to-access format.

You can also use ManagePC to create scheduled tasks and easily reboot, shut down, or log off users from within the interface. A built-in Help file doesn't go into tremendous detail, but it does provide an adequate overview of ManagePC's functions. Overall, we found ManagePC to be easy to use and quite comprehensive in the information that it provides. We recommend it for anyone who could use a good at-a-glance overview of system information. not sure

Not quite sure how this would work if made portable because of the need for .Net

someone would have to make a .Net portable first and i don't think Microsoft would like that we would have to get a binding agreement with them unless someone already does have permission from microsoft

i'm not wierd, i'm just different

.Net

i do believe that .Net is OS version specific i.e win 7, win vista, win xp unless it uses the base .Net only because win xp only supports up to .Net 4 and if the portable .Net updates beyond that version of .Net it can't be used on xp

i do believe vista has a similar restriction

i'm not wierd, i'm just different
