Why keep the package?

Die Bruine - November 17, 2006 - 8:34am

Why does the install package remain on the U3 device? I would like to use U3 OpenOffice. But it's kinda annoying when after install the drive's down a 230MB capacity. This could easily be reduced to 160MB just by deleting the 70MB install package. Yes I have tried deleting it. Deleting the package renders the application unusable... Very annoying indeed. I think I'll just try the Portable Package instead, and try to make an icon with the software I just found here. Would be nice though if you could make it so that the U3 version deleted the install package itself without the need for it afterwards on insertion.

Nope - U3 Limitation

This is actually a limitation of the U3 platform. It keeps the U3P around for all installed software, making their installed size about 50% larger than it should be. Applications are not permitted to remove or alter the U3P after being installed.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

I'm glad I found this site.

I'm glad I found this site. Just installed OOP and made a shortcut in U3. OK the U3 package stays. But this package for the icon is 110kB and not 70MB Smiling .
