ffp profile copy from standard ff

The directions say to copy the content of the profiles directory to the profiles on the ffp portable, but my directory structure look NOTHING like the example where I'm supposed to copy from...........

I'm running ff 1.5.0.7, and the 'default' directory has NO files, just 3 subdirectories that contain nothing remotely like what's supposed to copy. The directories are Cache.Trash, chrome & extensions...............the pff obviously is 2.x.

I'm at a loss at this point.............I really ONLY care about my password files, as I know I can export/import the bookmarks.

I'm running win xp pro for both versions, pff & ff, and pff is on a usb key, setup for local operation to minimize wear & tear on the key.

That's because

Your profile is located at "C:\Documents and Settings\[user]\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\*******.default" not in "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox"

I'm using the CORRECT location:

C:\Documents and Settings\gamcd\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\mgmmy6dw.default

The original comments still apply.........only those 3 directories are present, with NO individual files.

Then you moved it

It should be there. If it's not, at some point someone on that computer moved it with the Firefox Profile Manager. You can look in the profiles.ini file within your C:\Documents and Settings\gamcd\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\ directory and it should help you figure out where you put it.

Well, you were correct in one sense, the profiles were in another user's directory, but that user doesn't exist as far as windows is concerned.

The laptop I'm running on was pre-configured for IBM e-business, and I'm the only user setup, no administrator even, but I am in the administrator group.

Really strange............I tried copying the files over, and that seemed to work until it hit parent.lock, because ff was already running, and the copy stopped. I can't stop the other instances because I need to monitor some sites, but will try again when I go home. The settings did come over, but no passwords, but that could because the copy didn't complete.

Windows is strange in some ways, and this machine is setup almost like I'm an alias user for administator. Previously, when I wanted to add some programs to my startup folder, I now remember that I had to copy the shortcuts into the administrator directory structure instead of my own, very similar to this issue.

I'll let you know how it goes tonight, to add to the knowledge of what can happen moving profile info.

Renamed Account

It's odd, but this can happen with renamed accounts. Windows is buggy when you do that.

Stop doing everything in FF and copy all files except for parent.lock. You can usually copy a profile in use that way.
