truecrypt container thread

No one really knows what is happening with TrueCrypt.

Please keep your wild imaginings inside your head.

If you really must write about it don't do it here.

If you are going to do it here anyway, keep it in this thread.

Sigh.

it was never clear

In my opinion, it was never clear what was going on abt true crypt. The so called 'official' authors did change time to time, at least it was not clear who was providing the executables which could be downloaded everywhere.

So all was mostly rather suspect from the crypto point of view.

However if we take that this thing did exist for many years, there are meanwhile ports of it for most platforms now and they are compatible.
This is a big advantage, so a container can be used on windows, linux, mac or even mobile device same way.

The strange page telling us to migrate to bitlocker is some kind of pure nonsense who ever did write it. ( http://truecrypt.sourceforge.net/ )

I loved Truecrypt, it was a sad way they ended it.

guess the developers were bored of it.

I'm hoping derivatives of this will be made. Hey look at RealVNC, we now have UltraVNC and TightVNC, and VNC is built into OS X too.

I will carry on using Truecrypt 7.1 It works perfect for my purpose, and its better to have encryption with possible flaws than no encryption.

it will work definitely

as long as you use it for just containers. The way it works did not change much for years.

The major problem came up when people used the whole disk encryption for their w8 and tried to update to w8.1 then.
This was bound to end in a disaster. The drivers were also not signed properly for w8 and so on.
