in house mail system

I know you already have a thing set up where people can contact others using personal email accounts, but what if you had a little messaging system where you typed in the user you wanted to send a message to and it appeared in a "Mailbox" in the "My Account" space. The Mailbox would house the compose mail section and the Inbox section. You could also mail people by clicking a link in their Profile. It would not use outside email, but instead just have messaging. This would be quite useful for things you want to discuss with others outside of the forums, yet not divulge your personal email for privacy reasons. Admins would be able to read all these mails (of course). If anyone agrees, post a reply. Obviously the creation of apps takes precedence over this, so I don't expect to see this anytime soon.

Debating

There is a drupal module that enables this. But it's one more extra feature to add CPU cycles (which are in VERY short supply). And I'm not sure I want PortableApps.com trying to be in the position of facilitating private, semi-anonymous communications. One more thing to be liable for.

Of course, I have about 12 email accounts... nearly all of which are plastered on public webpages... so I, personally, don't see any big deal with requiring someone to divulge their email address if they want to directly contact another individual. But that's just me.

Regards,
John

yea

I have several email accounts, but I still think that it would be great, but if it takes up too many cycles, or creates too many liability issues, then don't overload the server or get yourself into trouble (though you could just have a little disclaimer about content).
