USB thumb drive hwo long will it last

With TBird portable and FFox portable, how long can one expect a usb thumb drive to last with a presumed imit or 100,000 write cycles?

I use my flash drive quite

I use my flash drive quite heavily for school assignments and stuff (basically every day). Not sure about the number of cycles, I've used three flash drives since 2004 and they each last about a year. Depends on your level of usage, really.

how would I know

that my drive is reaching its end?
failures? not connecting when plugged?
I have no clues Sad

Read/write failure, failure

Read/write failure, failure to be mounted correctly, causing the host computer to explode (ok not really).

oh, and

when the connection becomes on/off, and, from experience, when your computer tells you that the "hardware has malfunctioned".
