I am using portable Apps on an encrypted flash drive. I loaded the apps on an XP desktop machine, then put the drive into a Win2k machine and the Portable Apps Menu stopped working. I can launch the .exe files by double clicking their icon, directly, but that is not how it is supposed to go. Also, I wanted to show a friend who has an IBM Thinkpad and the Menu didn't work and when I opened the directory that contains the applications, the icons didn't display. Can anyone help me?

How did you encrypt your drive?
The drive has the encryption engine build into the hardware.
I was originally thinking the encryption has something to do with the problems but now I'm not sure. You should try formatting the drive and see if these problems persist.
Okay, I will give that a shot. But how would the encryption cause the problem? By the way, everything that goers onto the drive gets encrypted.
As indicated on the PortableApps Suite page, the 1.0 release had a bug preventing it from working on Win2K. Grab the 1.0.1 patch and it'll work fine.

However, I have found a new one. By default my drive is password protected. When I have password protection on, some apps do not run correctly, like Clam AV. However, when I turn password protection off, they run great. Why would this happen?
It's really more of a question for the vendor that provided the encryption (whether it's the manufacturer or a sep software piece). All the portable apps work fine from any medium you like as long as it shows up as a standard drive under Windows and isn't doing anything funny. What's the error you see (if any)?

I just tried it with password protection enabled and Clam AV just showed an error message that said there was an error and do I want to send en error report. However, I look ed into the other app directories and nothing was in them. Then I disabled password protection and everything worked and looked fine. I have seen a more specific error message, but I do not remember ehat it said at this time.
In this case, the encryption is built into the vendor's hardware.
I found out what was causing the problem: firmware.
(Full disclosure: I work for the company that makes the drives I use. I recently learned about portable apps and have been testing them. I am smitten and am advocating like crazy to have your products preinstalled on our products.)
I was told that the application/password protection incompatibility was a firmware issue. Then I was given a new token with the latest firmware and VOILA! it works great, with both user and admin passwords enabled.
