Help: my portable apps launcher died

Hi:
I was updating PortableApps this morning. The one updated app was the PortableApps platform (at around 4 MB). It downloaded, but wouldn't install. I got an error message that the update failed. No problem so far, that happens every once in a while. However, when I went to launch portable apps later this morning the platform didn't launch, either from the shortcut or the program itself.

I got an error message:
Cannot Open File

C:\users..;..\desktop\portableapps\portableapps.com\graphics/graphics\menubuttons\button_right_normal.png . The system cannot find the path specified.

So my portable apps platform is dead. I'm hoping I can revive it without having to reinstall everything.
Any help and suggestions welcomed.

I just tried reinstalling portable apps

Hi:
I just downloaded and reinstalled my portableapps.platform. It installed in my PortableApps folder, the one with all the portable apps in it. When it launched successfully it didn't have any apps listed in the menu. When I refreshed the apps nothing appeared in the menu.

Any suggestions welcomed.

It needs

To be put in the root directory not the directory that contains the apps go back one folder to where you see Portable apps documents etc and put it there

I tried what you suggested

Thanks Vf2nsr. I installed portable apps into the folder C\PortableApps. That is the one where all my portable apps are contained in separate folders. The program installed well and ran, but it didn't see any of my installed applications. Nothing happened when I clicked on refresh icons.
What didn't I do? Or what should I do differently.
Thanks.

Install to root

You need to install to root, not the PortableApps folder. The platform uses that folder within itself, and if you install to it, it will be looking in subfolders of that folder, not in it as you would like.

[EDIT] In your case, install to C:\
Note that doing so may change the label and icon for your drive.

Thanks Gord

I'll try your advice and install to the root directory C:\ and let you know what happens. Thanks.

I think I need to delete and install some files, please advise

Hi Gord.
I installed to root, Sure enough the Portable Apps application launcher launched but none of my portable application icons registered. So my question is how to start over or rebuild.
Would it make sense to create a second portable apps folder with all the portableapps in it and then install, or install first. Maybe I need to delete some of the folders under portableapps?
Is there a way to create application icon links in the now blank portable apps platform launch screed (the one that pops up when you click on the portable apps shortcut.

Thanks for all the help.

Your advice helped: problem solved

Hi All:
I followed your advice and deleted all extraneous PortableAppsPlatform and sure enough everything started working again. I thought I posted a thank you and update on this subject earlier, but I didn't see it on the list. Please forgive me if it is.

Anyhow. thanks to all for the timely and effective feedback.
