Eudora Portable

Submitted by Shawn-C on March 20, 2007 - 8:21pm

I love the PortableApps idea ... and use it regularly. The ease of use with OpenOffice Suite and having Firefox available for it is great ... it would however be nice to also see Eudora available for it as well. I've tried Thunderbird a few times but just don't quite enjoy it much, maybe I'll eventually get used to it.

Yes.

Yes, you will get used to it. You will indeed. Laughing out loud

And I don't know much about Eudora, but I think you can only get a trial version, and the rest is software which is fairly expensive, which means it's not open-source.

No need

Qualcomm is pulling out and just using TB for it's base.

Yeah

Eudura is going open-source. Just not as quickly as we want it to be. It'll be released sometime this year I read on their website

You can make Eudora "mobile"

You can make Eudora "mobile" yourself.
I've only tested the functionality at this point, can't say if it leaves registry entries behind.
On your c: drive create the following directory structure.
C:\PortableApps\Eudora\App\Eudora
C:\PortableApps\Eudora\Data
Install eudora to C:\PortableApps\Eudora\App\Eudora
During the install it will ask you where to put the data folder, point it to
C:\PortableApps\Eudora\Data
after install do not run eudora yet.
open deudora.ini from C:\PortableApps\Eudora\App\Eudora
in the [Settings] section change
DataFolder=C:\PortableApps\Eudora\Data to
DataFolder=\PortableApps\Eudora\Data save the deudora.ini
copy or move C:\PortableApps\Eudora to your flash drive.
you can uninstall eudora from your C: now if you want to.
run eudora, set up your email accounts.

You will need to create a launcher to run eudora from PAM, search the forums for info on how to create a launcher.
